FULL JOB DESCRIPTION ATTACHED:

To assist the establishment in the provision of further education and vocational programmes and create learning programmes for those students at the establishment aged 16 and over. The job involves working closely with a variety of other people, and the ability to develop quality-working relationships. The role also calls upon a range of personal qualities and the ability to deliver needs-led programmes to students with complex special needs.

The references in brackets relate to National Occupational Standards for teaching and learning in FE. These describe precisely the level at which the job will be supervised.

  • To communicate effectively with learners and provide personal support. (D3 & E4)
  • To establish and maintain an effective learning environment, in line with behaviour management policies, safeguarding students and staff health and safety. (D1)
  • To make an initial assessment of learners needs. (A2)
  • To induct learners into the organisation, providing effective learning support. (E1 & E2)
  • To identify and plan the needs of students and ensure access to guidance opportunities for learners. (A1 & E3)
  • To identify the required strategies for an individual’s learning plan. (B1)
  • To plan and structure learning activities. (D2)
  • To facilitate learning through experience. (C3)
  • To facilitate learning in groups. (C2)
  • To promote and encourage individual learning. (C1)
  • To identify appropriate teaching and learning techniques, using appropriate assessment methods to measure learning and achievement. (B2 & F1)
  • To facilitate access and provision to learning programmes. (B3)
  • To select and develop resources, ordering and costing appropriate materials and equipment as per the establishment ordering procedure, in liaison with the head of department. (D5)
  • To make use of assessment information, this will involve attendance at statutory reviews with other interested professionals and staff as required. (F2)
  • To review the learning process with learners, and maintain regular contact with consultants on specific issues, with parents and external agencies providing guidance, advice and progress reports as appropriate, keeping all relevant parties informed. (D4)
  • To plan for future practice and assist the development, organisation and review of adult learning, vocational curriculum in collaboration with the head of department and other staff. (G2)
  • Plan and provide, short, medium and long term planning on an annual basis, to head of department. (D2 & G2)
  • To establish and maintain effective working relationships. This may involve attending meetings (which may sometimes occur outside education hours). There is an expectation that you will communicate information in a clear, legible, objective manner, in a variety of ways, using the required level of confidentiality. This includes the use of e-mail and computer based systems as they come into use. (D6)
  • To actively participate in arrangements made in accordance with Cambian Education Services policy, for your own supervision and appraisal. This includes the responsibility to evaluate one’s own practice and engage in continuous professional development. (G1 & G3)
  • To contribute to the organisational quality assurance systems. (D7)
  • To work with a professional value base. Qualifications required
  • No criminal record including convictions, cautions, reprimands, bindings over or warnings which may be relevant to the safety and welfare of students/residents or staff
  • Recognised qualification relevant to the subject areas to be taught
  • Hold C&G 7407 level 1 ( If not held be willing to achieve this within 2 years of appointment)
  • Current car driving licence with no disqualifications or serious offences within past 3 years (only scored where minibus driving required)

Experience required
  • Experience (min 2 yrs) of working effectively with learners who experience difficulties similar to those experienced by students at this establishment
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team
  • Experience of planning, delivering and assessing learning activities appropriate to individuals’ needs and abilities
  • Experience of working successfully in situations which draw heavily on the ability to deal with difficult pressures and personal challenges
