Candidate Requirements:

Education level & general experience

  • Bachelor in Chemical or relevant Engineering discipline
  • Strong process background preferably within the Chemical industry.
  • Lean/Six sigma experience, to 'Green Belt' standard.
  • Technical knowledge/ expertise:
  • Able to gather, analyse, interpret and take action on data is very important.
  • General 'Engineering acumen' is very important
  • High volume continuous chemical process experience is desirable.
  • Practical working knowledge of 'Lean' and Continuous Improvement tools and techniques


  • A tenacious and robust individual who must be comfortable and passionate to take the 'ownership and accountability' of the process.
  • Able to articulate achievements and improvements by pointing to them and demonstrating 'before' and 'after' with data.
  • Ability to retain a measured approach, working under own initiative, applying logical thinking, often under time pressures.
  • Must be willing to travel to Europe

Job Description:

Develop, optimize and maintain production processes, installations and/or equipment related to the own area of expertise, in accordance with HSE and operations guidelines, site infrastructure, regulatory requirements and year plan/budget, in order to maximize the reliability, quality, safety, sustainability and efficiency of production processes at the optimum level of costs.

Accountability 1: Safety first culture.

  • Ensure compliance with all 'local', 'corporate' and 'legislative' safety rules and regulations.
  • Act as 'site expert and reference' on chemical related HSE matters, including REACH and COSHH
  • Contribute to safety investigations, pro-active risk assessments, HAZOPS and improvement teams to ensure ownership and improvement of safety standards.

Accountability 2: People Influencing and Engagement.

  • Provide technical support and expertise for all production related activities.
  • Steer, guide, support and train operatives in delivering process reliability and improvement
  • Stimulate the talent within the teams, strive for results, and challenge any poor process performance.
  • Ensure understanding of the link between process, individual behaviours and impact on KPI's.

Accountability 3: Process - Product Quality and Process Stability.

  • Fully understand and control technical and process parameters to deliver optimum quality.
  • Continually strive to improve product 'value' to customer whilst reducing 'cost' to the business.
  • Observe all quality procedures. Record necessary quality data and information.
  • Support root cause analysis and problem solving teams to deliver '100yr fix', in event of NCRs or complaints.
  • Work in close partnership with Maintenance in troubleshooting, assessing possible solutions, and identifying most appropriate course of action.

Accountability 3: Continuous Improvement.

  • Continually strive to improve product 'value' to customer whilst reducing 'cost' to the business.
  • Adopt and embed the Lean tools and techniques within the business, including Six sigma, SPC and other tools as they are adopted.
  • Identify limitations, bottlenecks and opportunities. Work with data and facts, recommended courses of action.
  • Make recommendations /support project management with regard to identification, specification, pre-acceptance, installation and commissioning new equipment.
  • Lead root cause analysis and problem solving teams to deliver '100yr fix' for process related issues.
  • Have the confidence and drive to challenge the status quo and make every effort to continuously achieve controlled improvements.

Accountability 4: Process development- Formulations and Standards. Support the production process to deliver BOM and outputs as laid out in standard production parameters

  • Ensure the process is running to specified speeds and outputs.
  • In event of 'out of specification' conditions occurring relating to safety, quality or materials consumption, intervene in a timely fashion and take corrective action
  • Monitor and evaluate all aspects of material yields / scrap, and implement improvement measures to optimise Raw Materials performance.
  • Contribute to setting of production parameters budget with Production Manager and Plant Manager, and take joint ownership of KPI's to deliver them.
  • Facilitate and support all aspects of product and line development, working with Production Manager, Maintenance Engineer and other team members.

Accountability 5: Reporting and Identify, document and share 'Best Practice' across shifts and sites. Embrace, support and implement Best Practices as identified by other areas and sites.

  • Ensure clear and timely delivery of periodic and ad hoc reports. Work with data and facts
  • Compose logical and compelling recommendation
  • Adopt tools and techniques to improve business performance and embed an improvement culture.
