As a Tutor delivering education in prisons, you can really make a difference to improve people’s lives. Challenging, yet extremely rewarding, this role plays a significant part in helping to reduce our learners re-offending. 

PeoplePlus are a leading employment support and training services company, helping people to transform their lives and businesses through work, training, education and financial advice. Our Justice Division delivers the Offender Learning and Skills Contract(OLASS) in 10 prisons across the East of England. Our vision is to deliver high quality education training and vocational skills to a wide range of offenders, from those serving very short sentences of under six months to life sentenced offenders. 

Our strong Tutors play an integral part in identifying the training requirements of our learners, building them a training plan and helping them to overcome any barriers to employment.

The salary band for a fully qualified Tutor is £24,088 - £29,213 and for an unqualified Tutor £19,373 - £23,678. PeoplePlus will support and fund unqualified or part qualified Tutors in obtaining a full teaching qualification.

What You Will Be Doing

•Identifying the individual needs of learners ensuring that all learners have an individual learning plan which links to their long term employment goals. 
•Continually reviewing our learner’s progression to ensure that the training continues to meet their identified needs. 
•Preparing, delivering and reviewing comprehensive lesson plans for all sessions that address the training needs of the group including basic literacy, numeracy, language and other social / employability barriers to employment.
•Engaging and motivating both individuals and learner groups to increase retention. 
•Working with colleagues / hosts to assist learner’s progression towards qualifications, and movement into employment.


Qualified Tutors

- Full teaching qualification at Level 5 or above or equivalent (e.g PGCE, Cert Ed, DTTLS)

Qualified and Unqualified Tutors

- Specialist subject qualification
- Confidence in using a diverse range of presentation, facilitation and communication skills.
-  Experience of developing curriculum/ programmes of learning and of planning & delivering, on a roll-on, roll-off programme.
- The ability to handle challenging situations whilst remaining calm and in control especially in a group situation.
- Respect for and understanding of Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Data Protection policies with specific attention to health and safety requirements when organising off-site activities.
- A passion to motivate and lead by example to support people to achieve qualifications.
- An empathy with the learner group and experience of overcoming complex barriers, a background in working with unemployed and / or disadvantaged people and in a challenging or secure environment is desirable.
