My Client…

My client is the world’s largest independent publisher of oil and gas journals with offices in Houston and London. The company offers online media products under each of the brands, and produces conferences throughout the world.

Job - summary of role, key duties and responsibilities

Sales role, working as part of a growing team to secure marketing and advertising revenue from businesses across the oil and gas sector in the UK and Scandinavia. Clients will include service providers, engineering and construction firms, equipment companies and others selling to the global oil and gas industry.

Key duties will be to achieve and exceed sales targets across print and digital advertising by servicing existing clients and developing new business.

The successful candidate will:

  • Sell digital and print display advertising through in-person meetings and by phone, travel expected to meet clients. 30% travel required.
  • Maintain and develop their client base to maximize revenue across the portfolio of three trade journals, upstream, midstream and downstream.
  • Understand and communicate the needs of the advertiser base in order to assist with new product development.

Person - skills, qualifications and experience

  • Ideally educated to degree standard. Must have GCSE mathematics at A-C grade (or equivalent) and be numerically confident.
  • Proven B2B media sales experience, who has demonstrable success in display advertising sales (minimum four years) and selling lead generation. Ideally would also have experience of selling to large organisations and overseas clients. Face to face and agency sales experience is required.
  • Established experience of maximising client revenue through creativity, use of initiative, and accessing multiple budgets.
  • Must be trained in sales techniques, with a proven ability to negotiate and close. An understanding of the media and the benefits of different advertising formats is also essential. Knowledge of or contacts in the oil and gas market would be an advantage.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are a core requirement of this role. The successful candidate will be target-driven, self-motivated and intelligent.
