Job Purpose

We are seeking an Assistant Editor / Editor with day to day responsibilities for editing, typesetting and generally maintaining a number of established products and services across our portfolio, including isurv (an online content platform) and our own standards and guidance.


  • Create and update web pages using the internal content management system.
  • Liaise directly with authors to ensure that material is received to schedule and agreed standard.
  • Work with other editors and product managers at product development stages as required.
  • Ensure new content for established online subscription channels and/or standards is edited and processed to the highest standards possible.
  • Create and update web pages using a content management system.
  • Typeset documents adhering to templates and liaise with Brand on decisions where necessary.
  • Liaise with authors and internal staff members to ensure timely delivery of suitable content/data.
  • Guarantee high level of quality control, ensuring published material is in line with house style.
  • Edit, typeset and project manage selected products produced in various formats.
  • Ensure reproduction rights in extracts and illustrations, etc. are obtained from relevant copyright holders.


  • Editing or publishing experience (preferable but training is available).
  • Experience editing (preferably) large, information-rich online resources.
  • Knowledge of best online content practices.
  • Experience using content management systems.
  • High standard of written and spoken English.
  • First-class copyediting and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat.
  • Team player.
  • Practical and efficient.
  • Confident and assertive.
  • Articulate and adaptable, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Problem solver.
  • Able to work autonomously and prioritise workload.

The role will initially be based in Coventry but we are expecting to move to new offices in Birmingham City Centre by December 2017. Some travel within the UK will be necessary for meetings or training.
