This is an exciting opportunity to drive the financial strategy of a global leader in the sales training industry, playing a key role in doubling EBITDA within 2 years.

The Chief Financial Officer is a new role for our Client. The CFO will report directly to the CEO, with the mission of increasing EBITDA from £1m to £2m over the next 2 years.

Our Client's executive team is financially very literate, and have succeeded for many years with only a Financial Controller reporting directly to the CEO.

The company’s revenue grew by 20% in 2016, but EBITDA grew by the same percentage. However, our client had anticipated that it would grow at a faster rate. This lack of operating leverage was driven in part by a gross margin issue that has since been resolved. There are other issues including complexity effects in the business that require an additional level of Financial Leadership for you to resolve.

The CFO will have direct oversight of the Finance team (currently the Financial Controller and three other team members). They will also have overall responsibility for improving the Financial Performance of the business, working with the other Exec team members to do whatever they need to do with internal teams and processes in order to achieve that, and for supporting the CEO in his strategic activities.

The primary outcomes we are seeking are:

• Improving the profitability of the business, through direct action including (but not limited to):
- Improved procurement;
- Modelling cost drivers in the business (number of clients, workshops, etc.) in order to create a strategy to reduce fixed costs as a percentage of revenue;
- Liaising with the sales and operations teams to identify and execute against profit levers such as mix and project structure
• Supporting the strategic activities of the CEO, and the Board and Executive Team, including:
- Creating a strategy to double EBITDA within 2 years;
- Monitoring financial KPIs across the business;
- Working with the CEO on ad-hoc analyses;
- Contributing to Board and Executive meetings, bringing insight and ideas as well as reporting.
• Working with the FC to ensure the smooth running of the financial aspects of the company, including:
- Timely production of monthly management accounts and forecasts;
- Company-wide budgeting;
- Effective cash collection and management of the working capital cycle;
- Development & implementation of a foreign currency hedging strategy;
- Satisfying local and international filing requirements;
- Managing key external relationships.

Personal Specification

This role could be a good fit for you if you can demonstrate:

• A portfolio career that would support a part-time CFO role including sitting on the Board and Company Secretary duties;
• Significant experience at CFO level in businesses of more than £10m turnover, with a global footprint;
• A track record of achieving significant (100%+) profit growth in a short period, through your direct interventions;
• Strong quantitative skills and a strategic outlook, allied with a track record of ‘getting stuck in’;
• Excellent interpersonal, communications and presentation skills;
• Exceptionally strong problem-solving and analytically skills, with a proven ability to analyze financial data, isolate insights and make decisions in the face of ambiguity;
• Strong, confident leadership capabilities. We need someone who will get involved in the detail but is driven and steered by the overall company strategy and will not lose sight of the bigger picture;
• Experience of M&A an advantage.
