Permanent Head of Science post, Central Birmingham, September 2017 start, full time, brand new school.

Hays Education are delighted to be working on behalf of a secondary school in Perry Barr, Birmingham to recruit for a Head of Department (Science) for a permanent post to start in September 2017. This is a full time teaching role, 5 days per week up to KS5 and will be paid to scale. Your new School
This is a brand new school based in Perry Barr, as it is so new they have yet to have an Ofsted inspection. This is a Muslim faith based secondary school that opened in September 2015 with 100 Year 7 students and 50 students in year 8. Each year they will welcome another set of pupils into Year 7 until they have 500 11-16 year olds in 2019. They will also be opening a 200 place sixth form in September 2019. This school truly aims to provide educational excellence. This means that for them, this is a responsibility not only to achieve high academic standards, but also to foster a love of learning in their pupils. It is their belief that this passion will carry our pupils to succeed in whichever road they choose to travel.

The school building is very impressive and they have a range of first class facilities available to both the students and staff alike. Their science department has state of the art classrooms and laboratories including specialist laboratories for Biology, Chemistry and Physics which means they are able to carry out practical sessions which all the students enjoy. At GCSE, they teach Edexcel.

Our aim is to nurture our students and to instil curiosity through practical and engaging science lessons so students can begin to question, analyse, interpret and evaluate scientific processes. We provide a science enrichment club after school every week to create the love and passion for science outside of lessons to demonstrate to students that science is relevant to their everyday activities. The department promotes high expectations and standards, to create well rounded and confident individuals ready to tackle the world.

Your new Role
In your new secondary Head of Department role (Science) you'll be required to teach the current Science curriculum across the school. The school are seeking to appoint an inspirational Curriculum Leader to take full responsibility for the leadership of the Science curriculum. The post holder will be expected to develop a team culture that fosters collaborative working between all teaching staff in the subject, ensuring a focused commitment to the delivery of a high quality learning experience, with excellent examination results for all students. The role is offered as a permanent post full time, Monday to Friday and extra participation in the life of the school is expected. Due to the nature of the role it is offered as a paid to scale post with a TLR. All applications are to be dealt with by Hays Education and visits to the school can be arranged and are encouraged.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in your new teaching job you will have completed your studies and hold UK QTS. You will be an experienced Science teacher that is passionate about student progress and is committed to helping pupils to achieve their academic potential. The ideal candidate would have been in a long term or permanent teaching role and will be able to supply Hays with outstanding references from the previous employer.
