Insurance Claims Specialist

Unum is looking for an experienced Claims Management Specialist ideally with knowledge of managing a portfolio of Income Protection claims. If you are looking for the next challenge in Claims then this role may be for you. The team is based in Basingstoke in our modern office is based 10 minutes’ walk from the train station, although if you drive, we provide free parking on site.

As a Claims Management Specialist you will proactively manage customers with a sense of empathy and sensitivity, proactively managing a caseload of income protection claims. This is a varied and challenging role which involves constant collaboration and requires a first class communicator, along with strong organisational skills. Using you industry experience you will liaise with a variety of stakeholders to obtain necessary information, provide analysis and make informed decisions whilst providing financial security and support to enable our customers to focus on recovery
What makes you suitable to work as a Claims Management Specialist?
You will have to be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent and/or experience in law, psychology, nursing or other relevant discipline
  • Previous experience in same/ similar role in Claims or relevant industry
  • Understanding of the NHS, understanding medical conditions, be able to assess and evaluate the claim, handle the claim, know principles of claims assessment, understanding rehabilitation process;
  • Have to have unwavering customer focus and put the customer at the heart of everything you do!
  • A proven ability to lead, motivate and develop individuals to achieve success would be an advantage.

    What our Insurance Claims Specialist do?

  • Provide a high level of customer service at all times through the achievement of service standards and an awareness of customer expectations and perspective
  • Investigate all claims within an allocation, reaching a decision, proactively identifying and obtaining all information necessary to the validation of each claim
  • Communicate all claims decisions in a timely and appropriate manner and ensure that communication during the assessment process is regular, timely and clearly documented
  • Work with the Customer Care rehabilitation team in promoting and assisting claimants in returning to work
  • Contribute to various short-term projects
  • Working co-operatively with other teams internally to meet business needs
