Job Title: Urban Designer
Location: Southampton
Salary: £30,000 - £40,000


We have a brilliant opportunity for an Urban Designer to join our Client who focus on innovative design and build projects across the UK. The aim of this Urban Designer is to be responsible for the management of the CAD design and manage and ensure compliance with standards are met in all aspects of the design. Further responsibilities of this Urban Designer include:

  • To ensure that contracts / orders are within full compliance with health and safety, quality and environmental legislation as well as compliant with the company’s policies and procedures
  • To carry out and manage all necessary design work using 2D and 3D plans and designs
  • Compliance management with the responsibility to check that all drawings and specifications comply with all necessary play guidelines, building regulations, planning permission, DDA, structural calculations etc.
  • Responsible to deliver all drawings and visuals within the timeframes agreed and set
  • Ensure corporate image is achieved on all drawings and presentations
  • Manage the preparation of CAD detailed drawings
  • To manage the production and quality of the CAD drawings
  • Provide detailed material take-offs and measures for the pre-contract team
  • Liaise closely with pre-contract team to assist with estimating (especially during quote stage)
  • Provide details on drawings to enable subcontractor package, to be provided and priced
  • Provide working drawings and take-offs for contract managers as required
  • Manage and work with structural engineers to ensure our structures are backed up by 3rd Party (whilst ensuring we control our costs) insurances and guarantees
  • Formulate and build up a standard set of calculations and Library items that our Client can use for pricing purposes
  • Develop and evolve designs to ensure the unique approach to the Clients designs are maintained
  • Work with the projects team to design cost effective schemes - allow for regular feedback for effective designing
  • Developing designs that are ahead of the competition, making recommendations to management as to anything that should be being done to enhance their presentation
  • Make recommendations to management as to anything that will streamline and enhance performance
  • Create a library of detailed designs, construction details and approved engineers designs of repeat items to ensure consistency throughout the business

The candidate:

  • Have approximately 4 years’ experience in a CAD design role
  • Have experience in using CAD software or Vector Works software
  • Ideally have worked on Play Equipment, Playscape and Landscape design projects, but is not essential to have all three
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively
  • Able to work to tight deadlines
