James Hume is recruiting for a Senior Analytical Scientist with a background in molecular biology to join a company developing cell and gene therapies who are based in Central London.  The company’s aim is to work with their collaborators from both academia and industry to take their novel technologies from concept through the commercialisation process to launch. To further develop their research they need to recruit a Senior Analytical Development Scientist to support the development of their viral vector industrialisation projects.

The company are a centre of excellence that is at the forefront of creating a viable and sustainable cell and gene therapy industry in the UK.  Their headquarters are in central London where they have built a market leading multidisciplinary team that has the ability to take a therapy from concept through the development cycle to the market.  They collaborate with both academia and industry and they are able to provide the scientific, clinical and commercial expertise needed to overcome the challenges that hinder the commercialisation of these fast developing, cutting edge technologies.  Their longer term aim is to make the UK a global leader in the development and commercial exploitation of therapies.  They are making great strides towards this aim with therapies entering phase 2 clinical trials and building credible cases to be progressed to stage 3.  Added to this they are
expanding their manufacturing and development operations to meet increased demand for their services from the academic and commercial sectors.

The Opportunity:
The Senior Analytical Scientist is an influential role where you will lead projects for the development of novel approaches for the characterisation of cells as part of the wider aim to develop cell therapies.  This is an innovative environment at the cutting edge of research into this field where you will use your scientific ability to plan and then drive these projects forward.  Setting out the milestones, resources needed, project specific protocols, work flows, contribute to grant applications and the transfer of developed assays to other internal teams.   

Working within the laboratory to guide more junior members of staff in their assigned work, give advice on how to resolve issues faced and mentor them.  They work in state of the art laboratories using the latest techniques and approaches such as RT-qPCR, microarray, NGS, and digital PCR.

Desired Skills and Experience:
You will need to have experience of working in a similar analytical role using molecular biology techniques supporting the development of cell, or gene therapies, or biologics.  Ideally you will be educated to PhD or equivalent level but candidates with an MSc will also be considered.  Whatever your qualification you will need to have experience of working within industry.  You will need to have experience of RT-qPCR including the design of assays optimisation and PCR quantification using data analysis packages and / or software tools.  Additionally, you will preferably have experience of cell characterisation using omics tools, the analysis of large data sets e.g. microarray or NGS, low level DNA / RNA detection, and cell culture.
