The purpose of this role is to assist in daily sales ledger, cash book and general accounting functions including banking and card payment reconciliation. To compile and process accounting journals, assist in the production of monthly account close down and undertake general office duties

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Maintain Sales Ledger
  • Maintain customer records and ensure details are up to date
  • Post and allocate receipts from customers via cash, bank transactions and card payments
  • Reconcile the above to Bank Statements and Card Acquirers
  • Manage receipts and payments through PayPal and Pay Mill
  • Provide information as required to customers regarding their financial transactions
  • Credit Control
  • Check and despatch monthly statements to customers
  • Manage accounts on hold/stop who are out of terms or have exceeded their credit limit
  • Advise customers in writing of overdue balances and follow up with telephone calls
  • Ensure all customers are CPA (Credit Protection Association) checked
  • Ensure all bad debts are referred to CPA as appropriate
  • Monitor progress through CPA
  • Update and communicate regular debtor schedules to ASMs and Managers
  • Provide weekly action details to Management Accountant regarding outstanding debtors
  • Prepare and issue bank reconciliations including charges to Management Accountant for month end closedown
  • Prepare supporting account schedules using Excel
  • Be prepared to take on any other responsibilities or tasks that are within the employee's skills and abilities and whenever reasonably instructed
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the Accounts Department
  • Obtain and organise information in support of own work activities
  • Create and maintain effective working relationships


1. Strong credit control and general accounting knowledge

2. Computer literate and skilled with Microsoft Suite especially Excel

4. Excellent organisational and management skills

7. Considerable customer contact experience, professional approach and excellent communication skills

8. Strong query resolution background.

Job Offer

Basic Salary between £18000 and £21000

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm. Every other Saturday 8:30am - 1:00pm (March to June inclusive).
