General Manager B&I - huge site, huge opportunity

You'll be GM of a huge, multi-million-pound new B&I site (still under construction, due to open in October) - you'll oversee the opening and put your own contract catering stamp on. With 4000 business employees to feed every day, you'll be able to empathise and connect with them all, from CEOs to the cleaning team and ridiculously intelligent tech-y types. You're able to find common ground with every type of awesome human and your warm, calm and professional manner makes everyone relax in your presence.
There are 2 branches of the site: plans are still being confirmed, but in one we're talking World Food (wood fired pizza ovens, rotisseries, healthy-eating/well-being - think Westfield Stratford food court but for B&I!), and in the other it's the usual grab-and-go suspects that you'd find on the high street, from coffee brands to fast food with a natural twist.
Of course, the site (including 249 meeting rooms) is open Mon-Fri (business and industry standard), but it stands empty and desolate at weekends, so if you just happen to have ideas about how to introduce weekend events, things will really soar…!
No 'list of qualifications needed' for us, but we do know that to truly succeed you will:
- Lead, coach and mentor your team: Using your City or Canary Wharf B&I / contract catering experience you'll be General Manager of a 40-strong team. You'll inject your top-end B&I / contract catering experience, bringing your quality approach and perfectionist eye for detail - your clientele are international business execs and you'll lead your team to provide consistently industry-leading service.
- Orchestrate the site opening: There are 3 smaller satellite contract catering sites which will close in the next year, and you'll creatively ensure a smooth transition by anticipating the inevitable challenges
- Analyse everything: Our B&I client is cutting edge - so are you. You're a mega-foodie with your finger on the pulse of food and drink hospitality trends. You'll make sure we're ahead of the curve, both supporting the best local produce suppliers and knowing when to reach further afield to introduce weird and wonderful foodie innovations.
- Continuously improve: You'll fine-tune recruitment and training as needed and you're always looking at efficiencies, cost-saving and improvements. We love improving, so you'll champion proactive feedback initiatives from your business and industry clientele continuously improving our service provision.
There's much more involved (all the usual bits you'd expect in a General Manger role: budgets, planning, team management) but you'll be capably supported. Your number 2 has been with the company for years and is a highly competent operator. Give him directions and it gets done, so he'll lean on your business and industry experience of longer-term strategy while he executes your short-term plans.
