Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Main Contractor - Maintenance - Social Housing - £5m - £100m + - Assistant Quantity Surveyor

One of the UK's largest privately owned construction development organisations have a requirement for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to step into their commercial team in North London. This Assistant Quantity Surveyor will be joining an organisation with over 4,000 employers with presence all around the UK with a wide range of services. These services include Construction, Education, Housing Maintenance, Residential, Property Services and Frameworks.

The Assistant will be joining the maintenance division where they are recognised to be in the lead positon in that current sector, focusing in the specific social housing sector. If successful, you will assist the commercial delivery of contracts whilst working with the client where and when necessary.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a young QS early in their development to join an outstanding Main Contractor, one that will provide you with the support and exposure that you need to develop into an and all round capable Quantity Surveyor.

The successful Assistant Quantity Surveyor will be reporting to the Senior Surveyor and your duties will be:

  • Prepare and despatch tender packages to sub-contractors (with support)
  • Set up job files and all necessary records (with clerical support and in conjunction with accounts Dept)
  • Collate sub-contractor tenders and, in consultation with the Contracts Manager, award sub-contracts
  • Prepare contract programmes
  • (In conjunction with the Quantity Surveyor), check and approve sub-contractors' claims for payment
  • Liaise with sub-contractors to resolve queries
  • Assess and cost variations to contract
  • Update and maintain job accounts
  • Prepare contractual claims for payment

Salary: £30,000-35,000

  • Minimum 2 years' experience
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good level of education to include 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, A Levels.
  • Reading and accurately interpreting drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work on own initiative and generate solutions.
  • Construction related degree or working towards.
  • Highly IT literate, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • A track record of successful procurement
  • Valid Driving Licence
  • Appropriate CSCS card
