Purchasing / Stock Control Assistant

A vacancy has arisen within the Purchasing and Stock Control Department for an assistant to help control our stock levels, costs and stock movement processes. The role will concentrate on the following areas:

  • forecast levels of demand for spares products and keep a constant check on stock levels
  • conduct research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality
  • liaise with suppliers / manufacturers and the relevant internal departments with information on the timing of the supply of stock
  • build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers ensuring suppliers are aware of business objectives
  • negotiate and agree service contracts (With Purchasing manager), monitoring the quality of service provided
  • Work with Accounts to ensure the processing of supplier invoices is timely and accurate
  • keep supplier/transport contract files up to date and use them as reference for the future
  • perform regular stock takes
  • work with the warehouse to ensure that quality objectives are met

    The following skills and abilities are essential for this role:

  • previous experience of working in a Purchasing and Stock Control Department
  • have a working knowledge and ability to use Sage or a similar package plus Microsoft Office, especially Outlook and Excel
  • experience with computerised systems with respect to barcode scanning
  • good communication and negotiating skills along with first rate Maths and English
  • excellent attention to detail is essential

The hours of work are 8:30am - 5:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am - 5:00pm Friday, with an hour for lunch, although some flexibility is required.

We are looking for a person who is ambitious, has a warm personality, and is capable of working under pressure as part of a team with leadership abilities.

Salary is negotiable dependent upon experience.
