Established in 1973, the UK office of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) supports the broader Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) by forming strategic partnerships with UK and European institutional partners including government agencies, policy institutes, corporations, foundations, NGOs, universities, associations and professional networks and mobilising resources. AKF also serves as a learning institution for programme enhancement, policy dialogue, education, and disseminating best practices in international development.

AKF are recruiting for a Financial Controller who will become a central member of the UK team and work closely with the Head of Finance and Operations to deliver the financial reporting for the organisation. This is an exciting period of development for the organisation that are looking to increase their global reach.

The Financial Controller will report into the Head of Finance and Operations and will oversee a highly capable Finance Officer and Grants Finance Officer. Key responsibilities include:

*Overseeing the financial and grant reporting for the charity including the production of the statutory financial statements
*Preparing timely management reports
*Generating financial analysis to assist senior management decision making.
*Providing sound financial advice to budget holders across the organisation
*Developing proposal budgets to present to donors in collaboration with the Grants Finance Officer
*Working with the Grants Finance Officer to prepare project updates and ensure donor regulations are adhered to
*Working with the Head of Finance and Operations to achieve clean internal and external audits.
*Working with the Head of Finance and Operations to make improvements to financial systems and processes
*Providing sound financial advice and financial management for a large DFID grant, AKF being the lead partner on a consortium project with other partners including some of the largest turnover charities in the UK.
*Providing financial advice for and monitoring AKF's major projects including a large building project
*Effectively managing the Grants Finance Officer and the Finance Officer

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to get involved in a fast paced organisation that is commercial and flexible enough to adapt to a changing international environment and continually improve its systems and processes. Highly regarded in the sector, AKF has a strong track record of successful bids and this is a key area which will be growing over the coming years.

This position requires a fully qualified CCAB accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA). Some experience of international finance would be an advantage but not necessary and candidates coming straight from practice or from a large commercial organisation are encouraged to apply. An understanding of donor reporting again would be an advantage but an interest in the international development sector is essential. This role would suit someone who is looking to take on a role with a steep learning curve where they can get involved in both the hands on and strategic responsibilities of finance and grant management. Excellent verbal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to manage a team and deliver financial advice to non-finance staff.
