An exciting role has just become available for a national Commercial ManagerSales in recycling.This role would ideally suit someone with a proven record in sales who has experience selling multi million pound contracts with an aspiration to progress through the company.

The Commercial Manager will be responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of national commercial accounts to ensure profitable growth of new business in Commercial for both third party waste collections and commodities purchase (cardboard and plastics).

The successful candidate must have the flexibility to travel extensively throughout the UK to effectively manage and develop these accounts.

What being a Commercial Manager at DS Smith will involve…

  • To help DS Smith increase market share in terms of Closed Loop Recycling and a wider waste Facilities Management Model as required by the UK Managing Director or Commercial Director

  • To develop industry/market knowledge to source new business opportunities and develop them to account stage

  • Achieve individual targets on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis to increase market share and manage a pipeline effectively to ensure growth within targets as set by the business

  • To work closely with the Marketing function to develop the company’s campaign model either through case studies, entering awards or contributing towards PR output (blogs, social media activity etc.)

  • Work with other departments and divisions to develop new customer and supplier opportunities in all areas of the business

  • Identify, manage and complete relevant tender opportunities for submission within set deadlines

  • Working with the Account Director to achieve margin and tonnage targets and KPIs.

  • To report on progress of leads and opportunities to the Commercial and Marketing Team as required by the Commercial Director

  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant company policies, including but not exclusive to all Health and Safety rules and directives

What we would like our candidate to have…

  • Relevant previous experience in a sales environment

  • Line managing or mentoring responsibility

  • Industry knowledge essential

  • Highly self-motivated

  • Strong communication, with the ability to communicate at all levels, including senior management, both within internal and external customers

  • Excellent IT skills with high competency required for most Microsoft Office applications including CRM systems

  • Ability to interpret data and financial information with particular emphasis on monitoring budgetary control

  • Good project management skills

  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Demonstration of a high level of Industry & legislation knowledge including across paper and plastics grades and treatment technologies
  • Good working knowledge of target sectors
  • An ability to work to and meet set deadlines, both customers defined and internal
  • Commercial negotiation skills

  • Management information analysis

Salary: £40K Circa
