We are looking for a confident and proactive candidate with excellent communication and negotiation skills to work within a long-standing client of ours in the Wallingford area as a Purchasing Assistant.

As a Purchasing Assistant, you will work to obtain costs from suppliers, provide cost analysis in-line with historic costings & benchmarks and overall develop a knowledge of the best suppliers to contact for different business needs. You also will be the first point of contact for suppliers and internal stakeholders, answering or redirecting queries as required. You will also have the opportunity to visit suppliers in international markets.

The successful candidate will be assertive, self-motivated and professional with a strong communication manner and the ability to negotiate successfully. Ideally, the successful applicant will have exposure to a purchasing, buying or procurement position, but more importantly you will have excellent communication skills, experience of liaising with contacts of all levels and a desire to learn; the scope of the role can be extended with experience.

Offer package;
Position:Fieldwork Services Buyer
Salary:£18,000 - £20,000 (dependent on experience)
Hours:09:00 to 17:30 Monday to Friday
Benefits:Includes 23 days per annum + bank holidays (increases with service), pension scheme, private healthcare scheme
You will also receive full training across the industry and its processes as well as sponsorship to study for the CIPS Certificate in Procurement & Supply Operations qualification.

Primary duties;
*To liaise with colleagues with regards to project costs
*Obtain costs from suppliers
*Provide cost analysis (e.g. checking costs are in-line with benchmarks and historic costings)
*Over time develop the knowledge required to recommend choice of supplier based on business needs
*Highlight any concerns over quote submission deadlines or non-response from suppliers
*Maintain and develop existing and future databases, including the supplier database and costing database
*Support in the preparation for supplier reviews
Additional responsibilities are likely to include;
*Taking a lead in ensuring that the research teams across all regions follow correct protocols when submitting requests
*Ownership of the outsourcing feedback survey and summary reports
*Liaise with Finance to support and resolve supplier queries (e.g. invoices, purchase orders, bank details).

Candidate specification;
*Previous experience within a purchasing/buying role - highly desirable
*Experienced in a varied and busy administration position
*Strong negotiation skills
*Ability to forge strong working relationships
*Excellent communication skills both verbal & written
*Able to work both independently and within a team, prioritise workloads and multitask
*Numerate with ability to understand financial information. Experience of producing reports and summaries is desirable.
*Competent using MS Excel
