"The school's work to promote pupils' personal development and welfare is outstanding"
We are seeking to appoint a motivated and ambitious Teacher of Drama and English to join our popular and oversubscribed STEM specialist academy. Applications are welcomed from both experienced and newly qualified teachers.
Proudly rated Good by Ofsted in all 4 categories in June 2016, The UCL Academy is a mixed 11-19 Academy in the heart of the London Borough of Camden. Priding ourselves on high academic aspirations, A-Level students in 2016 attained substantially above the national average for A*-B grades, and we expect GCSE outcomes to be well above the national average when the first cohort of pupils take their examinations in 2017.
The Drama department is currently at an exciting stage of development; our curriculum offers students a high quality, practical, fun and creative experience. As the Academy moves into its fifth year our first cohort of GCSE students are now in Year 10 and we anticipate a strong set of results in 2017. We are lucky to have two superb purpose built Drama Studios and a Main Hall with a stage, as well as an outdoor amphitheatre. We have strong links with the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and are privileged to be part of renowned theatre group Complicite's School partnership network. This has allowed us some incredible opportunities to work with a theatre group at the cutting edge of the Theatre world.
The English department is a highly collaborative, creative and innovative team of 11 teachers. We have created a mutually supportive culture and greatly enjoy working together. Our curriculum is rich in high quality, challenging literature from across time and across the world. Lessons in English aim to encourage independence, enquiry, creativity and academic rigour. Speaking and listening is at the centre of students' daily classroom experience and lessons always provide opportunities for discussion and debate. We place a strong emphasis on creating fun, memorable learning experiences for our students.
Our sponsor University College London provides a range of exciting academic opportunities and exposure to university life for pupils. We offer iconic state-of-the-art facilities and the opportunity to work with the latest innovations in classroom technology.
* State-of-the-art classroom technology - including Superstudios, subject specialism suites and demonstration theatres for interactive teaching talks by visiting academics from UCL
