The Role

You will work as part of the firm’s Trust Team, preparing accounts and tax returns for trusts in a hands-on compliance role to exceed compliance expectations and support managers and partners

Responsibilities will include;

  • Preparing accounts/ tax returns for trusts
  • Reviewing accounting and tax work prepared by others, overseeing junior staff in preparation of accounts and tax returns, providing training as necessary
  • Advising clients of their tax liabilities
  • Preparing forms R185 in respect of income entitlement and distributions
  • Preparing CGT computations on disposal of securities, chattels and property
  • Preparing IHT computations and returns for ten year events and exit charges
  • Identifying and dealing with situations where IHT may be applicable to trusts/ individuals
  • Working within budgets
  • Supporting the tax advisory team and carrying out advisory work in respect of trust matters
  • Keeping up to date with client affairs and maintaining good relationships with clients
  • Maintaining awareness of Larking Gowen’s services and finding opportunities to sell them to clients. Taking an active role in business development
  • Attending training courses as necessary to develop technical and personal skills and keep records for compliance purposes. Maintaining an up to date understanding of trust law/ taxation of trusts

The Candidate

  • ATT qualified/ studying towards STEP or CTA
  • Previous experience working within trusts and estates
  • Excellent IT skills. Experience using electronic management systems, Caseware, CCH
  • A self-starter, passionate, committed and determined to succeed
  • Strong team-player with excellent communication skills
