Application /Sales Engineer

An interesting and diverse role has become available for a proactive Application/Sales Engineer to work with an important company who are recognised globally for being at the forefront of their field.
In this position you will be responsible for performing a variety of complicated tasks.

Overview

*As Application/Sales Engineer you will be responsible for providing technical advice to both external customers as well as internal customers, this includes the sales team, customer service, marketing etc.
*You will be working with colleagues or on a direct basis, providing engineered solutions in response to customer requests for special designs to suit specific applications
*Establish and maintain relationship with customers in close collaboration with the Account Manager
*Take an active part in supporting and improving ETO processes
*You will also be working with colleagues in other operational areas - especially New Product Design and Manufacturing to share best practice and deliver continuous improvement initiatives

Background requirements
As Application/Sales Engineer you will be degree qualified in mechanical engineering and possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of mechanical power transmission or in a related area.
You will be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the field of mechanical engineering design and be able to carry out calculations for mechanical components - e.g. keyways, bearings, springs, stress and torsional calculations.
You will be a confident communicator, both whilst working as part of a team but able to work independently when required, using your broad experience, judgment and creativity to plan and accomplish goals.

Key Tasks:

*Manage Action Plans and projects (where applicable)
*Working closely with colleagues in adjacent functional teams ( engineering, customer service, manufacturing ) to set-up & implement tools and processes to optimise workflow
*Provide adequate answers/solutions for specific technical questions and applications and inform customer or customer service accordingly
*Engineering design and manufacturing experience required.
*Knowledge of engineering design principles, general machine shop practice and technical applications.
*Calculations for mechanical components ( keyways, bearings, springs, stress and torsional stiffness)
*Previous experience of mechanical power transmission product design and advantage
*Knowledge of and experience using 2D and 3D modeling software (e.g. Inventor/ SolidWorks/Creo)
*Knowledge of MRP & PDM Systems(Product Data Management System)
*Good communication skills at all levels in the business - shop floor to business leadership
*Knowledge of other language is an advantages

Capabilities and Success Factors

*Sound knowledge of key mechanical engineering principles - e.g. stress analysis, mechanics, rotor dynamics, thermodynamics, surface treatment, metallurgy, bearing technology, strength of materials.
*Knowledge of mechanical power transmission products - esp. couplings, clutches and torque limiters. Also gearboxes and prime movers, esp. electric motors.
*Knowledge of applications for power transmission products - e.g. industrial equipment used is mining, energy, steel, automation, materials handling, process plant, food and beverage.
*Ability to develop design concepts, conduct supporting evaluations and analyses, and interact with shop operational personnel to support manufacture
*Excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
*Strong oral and written communication skills, and able to communicate complex information in an easy to understand manner
*Some commercial knowledge and awareness an advantage.
