Machine Engineering Manager

A unique and exciting opportunity has become available with one of the foremost Automotive manufacturing companies based in Swindon, Wiltshire.

As Machine Engineering Manager you will be working with a company who are globally recognised as being at the forefront of their field, initially on a Fixed Term Contract until June 2019 with a view of becoming permanent after this time.

Within this role you will have direct influence and involvement in overseeing the smooth and efficient running of a world class engine plant where both petrol and diesel combustion engines are produced, in an environment where a mere 0.003% of the engines produced require any rework on them.

Reporting into the Casting and Machining Department Manager, you will be managing a team of five Engineers who oversee a wider production team.

This role may require occasional travel globally for up to two weeks at a time. This is rare but you will be expected to be flexible to accommodate the business needs.

Main responsibilities:

*Supervising and controlling daily quality through the management of CMM systems
*Managing proactive engineering activities within Engine Plant Machining
*Managing the Machining Tooling section - 3D CMM, cutting tooling and cutting fluid control
*Controlling multiple expense budgets for Engineering and Tooling areas
*Preparing and presenting to investment committees for justification of capital expenditure
*Co-ordinating activities between projects and production department to support New Model
*investigations and trial builds
*Driving continuous improvement
To be considered for the position of Machine Engineering Manager you must:

*Minimum of HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
*Project Management Experience
*Use of CAD systems - Preferably CATIA
*Must be able to read, interpret and create drawings for casting products and equipment
*Understating of safety and environmental legislation
*Experienced in the supervision of contractors
*Budget control experience
*Experience of CNC and machining quality characteristics
*Knowledge of programming 3&4 axis CNC machining centres
*Strong understanding of tooling materials (Cutting Tooling)
*Knowledge of tooling cutting parameters

It would be a distinct advantage to have:

*SAP Knowledge

You will be a professional engineer who is able to provide expert advice and guidance at all levels whilst being able to summarise and simplify technical information and present to senior management. Being approachable with a positive can do attitude is essential to this role as well as being able to react to changing priorities depending on the business needs. Exceptional leaderships skills will be required to ensure production levels are maintained.
