Communications Manager Belfast to £45,000 + Pension+Share Scheme

Our FTSE100 client are seeking an experienced Communications Manager with a strong background in strategic reputation management as well as stakeholder, public affairs and business engagement to join the team. Experience in the medical and/or disability field would be a significant advantage.

Overview of the Role
The role of Communications Manager is a key delivery position responsible for developing the stakeholder communications and engagement strategy for the business. Whilst this role is based in Northern Ireland and stakeholder management in this region will be a primary focus, the Communications Manager will also play a significant role in the development of the stakeholder management in the midland region, alongside the Communications Director.
Effective engagement and communications is critical to developing effective and productive relationships with our stakeholders (e.g. Local MPs, disability charities and claimant/customer representative groups).
You'll lead events for engaging stakeholders and parliamentarians; monitor press coverage (with support of the clients press team) and parliamentary business to ensure colleagues are kept up to date on external developments; and brief our Executive Team ahead of parliamentary and stakeholder meetings.
Role is based in Belfast but regular UK travel will be required.

Key Responsibilities
* Support the External Stakeholder Communications Director to develop and manage the overall external communications strategy for the business.
* Develop a stakeholder engagement approach in partnership with Senior Directors and DfC for Northern Ireland.
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships and communications with key stakeholders, including senior management, DWP/DfC, claimant representative groups, charities and health professional representative groups.
* Engage other stakeholders, including MPs, peers, ministers and individuals, according to the communications strategy.
* Work closely with the Executive Team and the DWP/DfC to provide briefings and to feedback high priority issues with recommendations to address.
* Work with the Group Press Office to develop lines and responses for reactive media enquiries and develop and implement an on-going plan into proactive activities to ensure a balanced public perception and positive re-enforcement of our clients brand.
* Work closely with the Business Assurance team to provide support and input to complex complaints and enquiries; ensure complaints processes harness good reputation management, best practice and ensure timely responses to key public audiences.
* Work with Organisational Development and appropriate internal governance groups to support continuous improvement.
* Work with Learning and Development to support the on-going Professional Development of our health professionals through the support of our stakeholders.
* Manage and report on risks, issues, changes, actions and decisions.
* Plan, schedule, monitor and report on overall progress and initiate corrective action, as appropriate, to ensure that the deliverables are produced on time and within budget.
* Ensure all outward facing material and products (including communications, marketing and website) are in line with brand quality standards.

Essential Experience/Skills:
* Proven external communications professional with leadership experience, ideally within a complex organisation with a diverse workforce
* Knowledge of the Northern Ireland political landscape with an active interest in current affairs and the impact this has on policy and public services
* Experience of handling enquiries from and running proactive engagement programmes with campaigning groups and/or charities, MPs, peers, each with differing communication needs.
* Relevant PR or media-related experience both in proactive and reactive situations.
* Senior / Executive level stakeholder engagement - at Board / Exec level in the Public Sector and Private sector.
* Able to build positive relationships with all audiences.
* Effective reputation management.
* Highly organised and able to create effective plans including managing complex timelines and deadlines.
* Exceptional written and oral communication skills, adept at communicating effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
* High level of commercial focus and strong business acumen.
* Experience in the disability and/or welfare sector desirable
* Experience of working with Government Departments advantageous
