Job Purpose:

To assist with the management, supervision and development of a team of care staff in offering a comprehensive residential service to our students (children and young people and adults), the aim being to ensure the physical, social and emotional care and development of the students and ensure consistency of learning throughout the 24 hour curriculum.
To act as a higher level care worker for the residential home A Care Worker level 5 will advise less experienced Careworkers to work in the correct way as expected of National Minimum Standards. A Careworker at this level will set a high standard of professionalism in all areas at all times.

General Responsibilities:

- Co-operate with all staff in maintaining good relationships with outside agencies and the general public in order to uphold the Schools image
- Ensure that your conduct within and outside the School does not conflict with the professional expectations
- Participate in regular Management, Support and Development sessions with the Managers and staff for whom you are responsible
- Work in partnership with colleagues and other professionals to meet the social, emotional, education, health and mental health needs of the students and yourself
- Report to the Estates Manager or Site Maintenance Team, any building repairs and/or maintenance identified as requiring attention
- Lead and attend staff meetings and training as required
- Ensure the respect, dignity and rights to privacy of the students as far as possible
- Actively support and promote Acorn Park School and all its policies including 'Equal Opportunities'
- Carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading as requested by the Registered Manager or proprietors

Maintain confidentiality for all areas, its staff and its work.  The nature of the work within the School entrusts people with confidential information about people with autism, their families/carers and staff.

The duties and responsibilities outlined above do not represent a full list of the tasks the post holder will be expected to perform.  It is also recognised that the duties of all posts are subject to change from time to time.  Alterations to duties and responsibilities and performance of similar tasks within the scope of and at the same level will be expected.  It is expected that this job description will be regularly reviewed by the post holder and his/her manager.  These discussions will normally take place during the Staff Development Review interview.
