Job Title Paraplanner/Trainee Adviser

Reports to Head of Operations

As a leading high net worth financial advice firm specialising in life insurance products only, our client (Insurance Broking) provides proactive, responsive and technical advice across a range of insurance products and, in particular, high value life insurance policies. An opportunity has arisen to become a valuable member of this small insurance broking business as it embarks on a path of continued success and further growth.

Purpose of Role

Initially the successful applicant will assist the Head of Broking and Sales Consultant in quotes handling, liaison with professional connections and insurers, managing clients, insurance policy applications and underwriting. As experience and technical ability grow the aim, for the right candidate, is for the role to develop into an adviser, taking responsibility for providing high quality advice to clients and helping to develop professional connections.

Initial Key Responsibilities

  • Production and issue of quotes to professional connections for their clients together with supporting information.

  • Liaison with insurance providers regarding insurability, underwriting requirements and resolving queries.

  • Liaison with the our clients Underwriter, who works remotely, discussing underwriting requirements, where necessary.

  • Attending client meetings, dealing with client queries and completion of application forms.

  • Liaising with colleagues, clients, professional connections and insurers to resolve queries and issues throughout the application process.

  • Generating suitability reports.

  • Keeping up to date with life insurance industry developments and the products and features offered by the various providers.

  • Demonstrating adherence to company and regulatory Compliance, Data Protection and Anti-Money laundering procedures.

  • Handling of private sensitive medical information for insurance applications, treating all information with total confidentiality.

Additional Future Responsibilities

  • Initial point of contact for all new quote enquiries.

  • Handling of telephone calls from professional connections, to determine quote requirements and resolve any issues.

  • Gathering the necessary information to enable an analysis of the client’s needs.

  • Providing clients with high quality and often technical advice on suitable life insurance solutions to the principles of best advice.

  • Acting as the point of contact for advisers and clients of the associate business, our client , for all life insurance enquiries.

  • Ensure the highest standards of customer care are met by demonstrating competence in all stages of the advice process

Personal Development

  • Ensure product and technical knowledge is maintained and expanded by constantly reviewing own training needs.

  • Identifying, in conjunction with Head of Broking/manager, suitable training media and progressing the appropriate training solution(s) in a timely manner.

  • Scope for the individual to complete CII examinations and to attend insurer training workshops as appropriate.

Key Skills/Experience

  • Ideally to have achieved CII Level 4 Diploma

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a paraplanning or sales support role, ideally with protection broking experience.

  • Must be well organised, able to prioritise own workload and work under own initiative.

  • Communicates effectively in writing and orally in a manner appropriate to the intended audience. Must be able to produce compliant written work to a high standard.

  • Works effectively within a team by communicating respectfully and honestly, and providing feedback that is specific and constructive. Shares information with and assists colleagues to achieve outcomes.

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Is accessible, approachable and has a positive attitude, is credible and actively listens to responses.

  • Is able to build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, develops and maintains a good understanding of the business.

  • Able to critically evaluate information; probe and challenge the facts.

General

  • Adhere to the Firm’s standard operating procedures and the FCA rules, both as amended from time to time and the latter as interpreted in the Compliance and Training & Competence manuals.

  • Take an active involvement in the development of the standard operating procedures, including best use of all technology available.

  • Assist and contribute to the establishment and ongoing maintenance of standard reports, suitability letters, appendices, provider information.
