The Company

Macfarlane Packaging has been at the forefront in the design and manufacture of transit packaging for nearly 60 years. We use leading 3D design software, an extensive range of packaging materials and a variety of manufacturing and assembly processes. We employ over 140 people and produce several thousand different types of bespoke composite packs to customers in the Industrial, Defence, Aerospace, Electronics and Medical sectors. We have two manufacturing sites and an extensive distribution network that enables us to supply customers across the UK. Macfarlane Packaging Design and Manufacture is a part of the Macfarlane Group, the marketing leading packaging company.

Designer Role/Duties

We are seeking to strengthen our current design team (based in Grantham) with the appointment of two designers, one more senior, and the other ideally at graduate level with minimum of 6-12 months commercial experience. Macfarlane Packaging differentiates itself from its competitors, design lead solutions being one of them. As a Packaging Designer, you will be responsible for taking briefs and developing packaging concepts (primarily composite solutions) in order to facilitate customer development samples and presentations. Creating packaging solutions fit for purpose considering the supply chain and end user.

Do you have the correct profile?

The ideal candidate for our senior hire would need to have structural design/engineering background. In addition, it is essential that applicants have the following…

  • CAD skills, preferably 3D – SolidWorks
  • IT knowledge – using Word and Excel
  • Industrial background
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Capable of understanding business process and procedures
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet targets
  • Having a methodical and organised approach to work at both individual & team level
  • Focused on right first time, quality and accuracy
  • Keen problem solving skills
  • Prototyping

*For our graduate level hire we’re seeking a relevant product design degree combined with as many of the above as possible (and minimum 6 months’ workplace experience).
