JOB ROLE - Head Dental Nurse
Leamington Spa
£19K - 24K P/A depending on experience

To manage the surgeries and nursing team to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of dental care to patients (both clinical and non-clinical), providing proactive support and assistance to the designated clinicians/therapists/hygienists.

Key Responsibilities:
*Assist the dentist /therapists/hygienists in all clinical procedures, providing chair-side assistance. To include:

oMaintain impeccable standards of hygiene and cross infection control, according to the latest guidelines and following practice procedures and policy.
oPrepare instrument trays for procedures.
oTake radiographs/clinical photographs (etc etc) when requested, and store according to practice policy.
oAt the end of the clinical day, ensure the surgery management is adhered to in line with practice procedures and policy.
o
*Manage, motivate and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the nursing team to ensure the smooth running of the surgeries. To include:

oAssist the Practice Manager in goal setting and performance appraisal of the nursing staff. Provide regular feedback to the nursing team on their performance and progress against goals and adherence to the practice procedures and systems.
oAllocate responsibilities across the nursing team (eg:radiography, stock ordering etc) and ensure accountability for the relevant actions.
oHelp the practice manager to manage the nursing rota to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of dental care to patients and support to clinicians.
oMonitor adherence to all practice procedures (including regulatory, health and safety, patient journey, providing feedback regularly to nursing staff. Provide monthly reports to management.
oOrganise and (where appropriate) carry out training with the nursing team to develop their clinical and non-clinical skills and to ensure up-to-date knowledge of the relevant protocols and procedures.

Ensure that all the relevant paperwork is completed promptly and accurately and that all client records are updated and maintained, according to practice procedures both personally and across all the nursing team.
*Create, implement and maintain systems to ensure the smooth running of the surgeries, ensuring that these systems comply with the latest regulations (including GDC, CQC, HTM01-05, COSHH). To include,
oMonitoring compliance to these systems across all practice staff ad regularly report on status to the management team.
oCarry out clinical audits and report back to management.

*Provide excellent proactive (non-clinical) customer care to all clients. To include:-
oBuild trusting and caring relationships with all patients and take reasonable steps to ensure their comfort and retain them as a client. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
oAsk patients for referrals and testimonials in order to achieve new clients for the practice. Assist the dentist in gaining patient acceptance to treatment plans in order to achieve the practice targets.
oAssist in managing the appointment book for all dentist /therapists/hygienists etc, ensuring that the daily production targets can be met and the booking system is followed and to ensure no delays for patients or clinicians
oAssist in manning the reception/patient lounge (as the business necessitates), providing a customer-focused and seamless patient journey according to the practice's brand standards, that assists in recruiting and retaining patients.

*Monitor stock levels for materials and sundries and liaise with Practice Manager.

*Ensure that practice equipment is serviced and maintained to the required frequency. Manage any breakdowns or faults promptly to ensure continued surgery availability and the smooth running of patient treatment, liaising with suppliers and maintenance companies as appropriate.
*Coordinate (as required) with the laboratory on timely dispatch and receipt of work.

*Proactively contribute to regular practice meetings. (including daily huddles, clinical reviews, non-clinical team meetings and management meetings as appropriate).
