Operational Risk and Controls Manager
Our client is an exciting new entrant to the life insurance market which has significant financial backing from a number of well-established Financial Institutions. It is currently being set-up and will launch in October 2017 (with its new brand name and website).
Customers will be at the heart of their proposition, their ambition is to offer a premium product which is differentiated by its excellent customer service and keeping promises made to customers.
We are hiring for an Operational Risk and Controls Manager to develop and implement an effective operational risk and control environment, to ensure the Operations team, processes and working practices are compliant with prevailing regulation; in accordance with agreed procedures. Bonus of up to 15% on top of base salary plus other benefits
· Risk framework
Implement and maintain an effective Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process that contributes to the effective execution of relationships, products and services for customers, in line with the organisation’s risk appetite.
Provide expert impartial guidance, training, coaching and support to the operation, to facilitate the effective management of risk, in accordance with agreed procedures.
Deliver ongoing impartial risk and control assessments and report on the adequacy of the operational risk and control environment, to ensure that inherent and residual risks are fully understood and controls, with associated issues and actions, are identified, in accordance with the agreed timings and process.
To build and maintain effective relationships across the business, to ensure the business supports the promotion of an effective risk management culture, in accordance with agreed processes.
Assist in internal, external and regulatory audits and their follow-up, to ensure the business is operating within its risk appetite; there is no detrimental impact to customers and where appropriate dispensations waivers and breaches are raised, in line with the agreed timings and process.

Identify and share operational risk management best practice, to ensure the business is always seeking to do things better for the benefit of our customers, whilst meeting all audit requirements.

Degree or equivalent relevant professional qualifications
- Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. Exposure to the working within operational risk frameworks including conformance testing and assurance activity
- A flexible and adaptable approach to change and will support others to respond in a similar way
- Experience of making prompt and practical business recommendations, even in times of ambiguity, considering various perspectives and taking responsibility for outcomes
- Experience of creating and deploying monitoring plans which consistently deliver desired results
- The ability to understand and interpret straightforward financial data
- Promoted and led best practice in risk and compliance management
