Helios Towers Africa is a private equity funded business with investors Soros, Rothschild, Albright Capital Management, Helios Investment Partners and the IFC. Started in 2009, it carried out the first towers sale & leaseback on the African continent in Ghana in 2010, and has gone on to become the leading independent towerco in Africa owning over 6,500 towers across Tanzania, Ghana, DRC and Congo B. It is now looking for an exceptional candidate to join its Strategic Finance Team as Group Strategic Finance Manager, to oversee the group’s debt and equity capital management, planning and analysis.


- Responsible for:

o Debt and equity management

o Group planning

o Business analysis

- Reporting to Group SFD insufficient

Main responsibilities:

  1. Debt and equity management
  2. Ensure that all group companies are suitably funded at all times
  3. Assist the Group CFO/SFD in raising and refinancing the group’s debt and equity
  4. Ensure the group is compliant in its debt facility agreements, including covenant monitoring, lender reporting & communications
  5. Ensure the group satisfactorily hedges its financial risk exposure
  6. Planning
  7. Manage the group’s budgeting and forecasting cycles ensuring high quality output delivered in a timely manner
  8. Produce high quality PowerPoint reports for the board
  9. Analysis
  10. Ad-hoc analysis on business performance, new business cases, project monitoring, large procurement and cost control

Essential requirements for the role:

  • Ability to build and operate complex 10-yr business forecasts
  • Experience in business valuation methodologies - include constructing DCFs, and returns analysis
  • Experience in managing multi-currency group forecast consolidations
  • Experience in running sensitivity analysis on investment cases
  • Experience of running group wide budgeting processes across multiple markets
  • Experience of corporate finance - including raising capital (debt / equity)
  • Must be available for travel to African countries (including DRC, Tanzania, Ghana, Congo Brazzaville, and others as required) at short notice
  • Experience of travel in Africa
  • Experience of telecoms and infrastructure businesses in Africa
  • Experience of running investment business cases for large capital expenditure
  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent qualified


- Leverage finance at a bank or corporate finance house, or in-house FP&A / corporate finance team

- Excellent attention to detail

- Excellent business modelling

- Excellent at PowerPoint

- Excellent communication both upwards to senior management and to the local OpCo teams in Africa

- Team player who is willing to go the extra mile

- Someone with broad horizons who likes travel and wants to get involved in business in emerging markets

- French language is preferred although not essential for exceptional candidate

- Degree from top university 2:1 or 1st
