As the only fully private maternity hospital in the UK, The Portland Hospital places emphasis on safety and quality as well as providing a premier service to all our women. With approximately 2,000 deliveries a year, our ethos is to put women at the centre of their own maternity care and empower them to make decisions about how they want to give birth, all with the highest in healthcare quality and safety. The maternity unit currently has 18 inpatient beds as well as a 5 bedded delivery suite with a birthing pool, an emergency maternity theatre and HDU facilities. Outpatients provide a maternity day assessment, ultrasound scanning and a wide range of birth preparation classes. There are also 6 cots within the neonatal unit which provides Level 2 neonatal care to new-born's.

Gynaecology Services are provided in our 12 bedded inpatient ward as well as in our busy gynaecology outpatients department.

Job Description

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Lead Clinical Practice Facilitator with professional development of all staff and learners within the Maternity Services Department.

Facilitate practice learning to the highest quality through teaching, assessing, administration and practice-based work whilst supporting the hospital's Clinical Governance Agenda.

Play a pivotal role in education provision within the Maternity department. The practitioner will be a proficient, approachable role model in addition to an expert clinician in the field of Midwifery with a proven track record of clinical achievement.

To work within the midwifery team to provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to all women during their in-patient stay.

To work alongside Obstetric Consultants colleagues to support Consultant Led Care within the maternity service.

To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.

To promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research, evidence based practice and the developmental of additional clinical skills in the speciality.

Skills & Experience

* Proven experience in support of trained staff

* Proven enthusiasm towards teaching/sharing knowledge

* Enthusiastic motivated and able to motivate others

* Understanding of Safeguarding issues

* Experience in conducting audits

* Experience in guideline/ policy writing

* Competent in cannulation, venepuncture and perineal suturing.

* Competent with computers and able to use clinical systems

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to work within a team and independently
