CI/ Continuous Improvement Lead

My client is an aerospace engineering company with modern facilities based east of Blackburn which manufactures aero structure and aero engine components to a high standard. They are looking to recruit an experienced CI Lead to work with the management team developing and deploying a sustainable Continuous Improvement culture across the site. Your primarily function would be to coach and mentor staff on the effective application of Lean and CI methodologies. You will identify areas for process improvements and developing a strategy to achieve tangible results by maximising efficiencies and quality, improved customer satisfaction and on time delivery and minimise operating costs and waste. You will develop process maps in all key areas of the business in order to drive consistency of approach and develop the company standard.
Duties and responsibilities:

*Promote a culture of Continuous Improvement in all areas of the business
*Working with the management team, identify areas of improvement and compile the business case for change (all functions)
*Conduct an initial review of the Kaizen framework; make recommendations for change where appropriate and oversee and manage the revised framework.
*Develop, implement and manage a Lean Awareness induction programme for all new starters to the business
*Working with the Production Management team:
*Conduct process reviews to identify and implement lean manufacturing plans to improve throughput, efficiency and product quality
*To investigate production and quality problems, identifying root cause and improvement opportunities and identify opportunities to eliminate bottlenecks
*Working with a multi-disciplined design and bid team, provide support and advice throughout the life of the project from concept through to launch.
*Review and comment on commercial models from an organizational and operational perspective to maximise commercial leverage
*Review and advise on training methodology and programmes
*Contribute to the development and generation of written manufacturing processes and procedures for new product introduction
*Advise on scale up processes for new and existing product lines
*Process map all key areas of the business in order to eliminate duplication, identify opportunities to improve utilising alternative methodology or technology and implement a consistent approach in order to develop the Weston standard.
*Agree Performance Indicators and report monthly progress
*Mentor staff on the effective application of Lean and CI methodologies
*Develop an effective Lean auditing system
*A sound understanding of AS9100, 14001 and 18001 and the implementation process.

Person Specification: Competency

*Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline e.g. mechanical / production / quality / CI engineering
*Proven track record in the development and implementation of a CI programme utilising lean manufacturing tools, techniques and systems
*Experience gained in a manufacturing/production environment in a CI role
*Proven application of problem solving/root cause analysis techniques
*6 Sigma (or equivalent)
*Project Management skills
*PC literate - MS Office Suite
*UK driving licence

*Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the confidence and ability to present to groups from all disciplines and levels.
*Strong leadership skills/influencing skills
*Take the initiative and where appropriate to work with the minimum of supervision.
*To be able to apply reason and persuasion, when needed, in order to promote action and implement change.
*To always work within the realms of "Reasonableness".
*Whilst this role will be biased towards manufacturing the successful candidate must be comfortable (and able to demonstrate) successfully leading CI initiatives in all areas of the business
*Flexibility: willing to carry out a range of duties, work outside standard business hours in order to support the Afternoon/Evening shift, occasional travel within UK
