Manufacturing Engineers & Junior & Trainee Managers

Department: Factory Fab Shop & Work Shop

Main Location: Braintree, Essex

Reports to: Manufacturing Operations Manager/Works Manager

Direct Reports: None

The Main Purpose of the Job:

To provide operational and engineering support to the manufacturing department, working closely

with the Works Manager to ensure all work is planned through the factory, delivered on time and correctly.

Duties Include:

Machine Maintenance

Ensure all manufacturing equipment is kept in good working order

Working with the Works Manager research and justify capital expenditure for new equipment

Maintain product information on company website

transactions/movements (Internal and external consumption)

Obtain quotes for stock orders

Coordinate stock ordering and processing i.e. Galvanising

Manufacturing Admin

Assist in the maintenance of the job costing system

Work with operations to improve company work flows of information

Generate weekly/monthly reports including Plasma requirements, Manufacturing workload etc.

Manufacturing

Providing costs, estimated hours and lead times for jobs including other sectors and depts.

Work with operations and purchasing to ensure raw material stock levels are kept sufficient

to meet delivery expectations with excess

Work with factory staff and supervisors to improve work flows through manufacturing including

the implementation of Lean Engineering.

Qualifications:

Good IT skills including intermediate Excel (e.g. pivot tables and V-lookups)

Have worked in a B2B engineering environment

Knowledge of mechanical engineering including machine shop (plasma/laser/oxyfuel cutting,

milling, drilling, punching, press break) and welding/fabrication (MIG/MAG) by qualification or experience

Experience of process improvement and Lean implementation

Full UK Drivers Licence

Project Managers & Junior & Trainee Managers

Department: Structural & Architectural

Main Location: Braintree

Reports to: Structural & Architectural Director

Direct Reports: None

The Main Purpose of the Job:

To implement and oversee Structural & Architectural steelwork projects within the construction sector.

Duties Include:

To run and implement Contracts with guidance

To attend pre-start meetings with guidance

To undertake all logistics of projects

To identify and deal with potential risks throughout the project

To organise and oversee the design and detailing process

To organise and oversee all processes through manufacture

To oversee onsite works within projects including H & S document production

To monitor budgets to ensure all legitimate contract costs are recovered

To maximise efficiency and to keep within project costs

To maintain good relations with customers at all times

To deliver projects to the timescales demanded by the customer

To undertake contract reviews

Other duties appropriate to the level of this role

Qualifications:

Proven technical and project management skills an advantage but not essential

An understanding of construction contracts and terms

Previous CAD experience would be an advantage but not essential

Excellent communication and organisational skills

To be able to stick to deadlines

To have 3 years’ experience within the construction industry

To be computer literate and able to use software packages such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word

Full driving licence

Project Estimator

Department: Business Development/Proposals

Main Location: Braintree, Essex

Reports to: Business Development Director

Direct Reports: None

The Main Purpose of the Job:

To support the Engineering Divisions in preparing responses to a variety of enquiries and preparation of technical and commercial proposals for tendering purposes.

Duties Include:

Interface with the Commercial, Operational and Engineering Divisions to understand the

requirements of RFP’s or tenders for prospective work

Provide support as directed by the Business Development Director

Work from technical drawings and specifications to produce concise and

effective technical proposals in response to customer requests

Co-ordination of resources to achieve the required engineering input

Maintenance of tender project documentation

Where required support sales heads attendance at meetings with customers

and participation in engineering and commercial discussions

Liaise with internal resources and external partners (subcontractors)

to build up tender cost model

Organise tender governance meetings

Production of tender compliance documentation

Handover successful tenders to the operational delivery team

Other duties appropriate to the level of this role

Qualifications:

Desirable:

HNC/Degree qualification in civil, structural or manufacturing engineering

Ability to draw using Auto CAD software or similar

Essential:

Experience of civil engineering, steel fabrication or closely aligned industry

Enthusiastic, proactive and organised individual with good use of initiative

Ability to read technical drawings and specifications

Ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non- technical clients

Confident in approaching new subcontractors

Excellent written and spoken English language skills

Computer literate; conversant in the use of Microsoft Office

Competent with the use of web browsing tools for online research purposes

QUANTITY SURVEYOR
Duties: Negotiation of contract terms/conditions 
Submission and agreement of interim valuations and final accounts 
Managing entitlement to loss and expense including compilation, submission and negotiation of claims 
Procurement of subcontractors including negotiating contract sum and terms & conditions 
Monthly contract reviews, audits and raising early warnings of contract risks Train junior project managers in commercial best practice 
Contribute to internal process creation and improvement 
Managing contract disputes 
Managing subcontract accounts including interim valuations, claims and final accounts 
Tender preparation including production of engineering cost plans and estimates 
Value engineering input during project design stages 
Other duties appropriate to the level of this role.
Qualifications and/or Experience Required: 
Proven quantity surveying experience and cost management of complex engineering or construction projects 
Knowledge of commonly used construction contracts and contract law  Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to communicate with all internal and external partners 
Experience in one or more of the following key sectors would be an advantage; telecoms infrastructure, structural steel, facilities management.
A self-motivated individual and ideally a member of a professional Institution or close to achieving professional status.
Preferred Qualifications and/or Experience 
Degree qualified in quantity surveying, or civil/structural engineering  Experience of mitigation and adjudication processes  Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), although not essentia

Where the frames, stair ways, baloconies etc are installed, using strcutrural steel work or architectural metal work.
Ensuring projects are run to schedule, costs, safely etc.
Liasingf with Clients, to ensure they are happy with the work & progress.
Liasing with other Department Managers, to ensure work is ready in advance.
SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER
Duties: • Responsible for running and implementation of structural engineering projects •
Monitor budgets and ensure all legitimate contract sales and variations are recovered •
Prepare for and attend project finance and contractual terms reviews •
Ensure that group health & safety standards are met and maintained during all operations under your control •
Carry out all work in accordance with the company QA procedures and policy • Maintain a flexible and proactive approach when dealing with clients •

Qualifications and/or Experience Required: •
Previous experience in project management and proven track record in completion of projects to time and budget •

ONC/HNC in mechanical engineering or equivalent •

Working knowledge of and experience of contract terms and conditions • Excellent communication and organisational skills • Good knowledge of health & safety legislation •
