Senior Planning Officer (Policy) Grade 10: Salary: £28,221 – 30,756 per annum 37 hours per week Permanent National Parks were designated in order to protect beautiful areas for the benefit of the nation. They came about as a result of the 1949 National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, which put a legislative framework in place for the establishment of National Parks in England and Wales. Overall Purpose of Job As part of the Strategy & Policy team, to undertake the preparation and delivery of the Development Plan To contribute to the giving of advice on the implementation of current approved Development Plan policy. Main Responsibilities To contribute to the preparation, review and delivery of the Development Plan in accordance with the Delivery Agreement. To include all associated data collection, analysis and consultation procedures. To undertake other forward planning work including land availability studies, development briefs, Place Plans, supplementary planning guidance and responding to draft national planning guidance. To assist in the preparation of regional and national planning strategies. To prepare proofs of evidence and written representations for the Development Plan Examination and to appear as an Expert Witness at Examination where appropriate. To present to members at National Park Authority, Planning Committees and Policy Forum. To provide policy advice to the development management section on planning applications and inquiries/hearings and to provide policy advice at preliminary and pre-application stages of the development control process. To respond to enquiries from members of the public on forward planning matters. To occasionally attend appropriate Community Council and other organisational meetings, sometimes outside normal office hours. To assist in undertaking various assessments and appraisals relating to the Authority’s plans and programmes, including Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Sustainability Appraisal (SA) and Appropriate Appraisal (AA). To undertake other strategic related work carried out by the strategy and policy team, including liaison with adjoining Unitary Planning Authorities. Any other related duties and responsibilities appropriate to the potholder’s remit and grading level within the organisation as determined by the Chief Executive.
