Legal Counsel, Corporate
The role is principally an advisory and execution role in relation to employment related matters relevant to Schroders' business globally. The role will sit within the firm's Legal function in London working closely alongside HR. The individual will be an English qualified solicitor having a strong private practice background in employment law and ideally some experience gained in-house on secondment in the financial services and asset management sector. The role will be full time as a member of the Corporate Legal team in London which handles corporate transactional matters (acquisitions; disposals; joint ventures); disputes and litigation; employment/ER work; regulatory investigations/interactions; commercial outsourcing and supplier arrangements; data protection and governance; and IP/branding as well as a wide variety other matters. The key areas of coverage for the role will be: • Providing advice and guidance to Schroders' business globally, and the various local HR teams, on a wide range of UK and international employment-related issues; • involvement in senior/multiple hires, including advising in relation to restrictions, obligations and duties of the parties; • transactional and restructuring support for corporate development and internal reorganisations, including advising on issues relating to transfers and remuneration of employees; • employee relations issues such as disciplinary hearings, grievances, performance management and managing investigations; • litigation and disputes with employment-related focus; • advising on the details of and matters related to Schroders' employee incentive plans and pension arrangements; • advising on employment-related legislative compliance, including reviewing and updating HR policies, process documentation and employment contract terms to ensure compliance with changes in legislation; • instructing where necessary, and managing relationships with, the employment teams of Schroders' panel law firms, both in the UK and internationally; • advising on and negotiating the terms of the commercial contracts managed and / or entered in to by Schroders' HR and Benefits teams; and • supporting the Schroders' privacy function in advising on and managing responses to data subject requests and other data subject rights (whether from employees or clients). The candidate will have to manage relationships with internal clients by providing accurate and timely support, by managing expectations where necessary and understanding the needs of the business. Essential Skills • Qualified, English-law solicitor with a broad knowledge of employment law, including experience of managing employment-related issues in EU and non-EU jurisdictions. • High quality legal analytic skills grounded in sound academic and professional training at a City law firm.
