Job Title: Planning Assistant

Department: Operations


The Production Planner coordinates and expedites the flow of work and materials within or between departments according to daily and weekly production schedules. Duties include reviewing and distributing production, works orders, assessing labour needs, and shipment schedules; conferring with department managers, team leaders to determine progress of work and completion dates; inventory levels, and solving production problems. It involves conferring with the operation manager and commercial managers to incorporate promotion plans with seasonal overlays. It involves analysis of production plan performance and feeding this back to team leaders and managers at daily meetings.

The role also involves being a production NAV lead in troubleshooting NAV and other system issues and helping team leaders to learn and used NAV software and hardware. The role will assist with the works planning function covering a 7 day rolling period 24/7 operation.

From time to time you may be asked to assist in a production supervisory capacity during exceptionally busy periods.

Main duties and responsibilities:

• Promote the planning ethos
• Liaise directly with the Operations Manager & Commercial Team
• Promote and improve Planning Standards at business, regional and project level
• Presentation of planning and programming to internal & external parties
• Actively contribute to the development of the Planning Folder in the Knowledge Store
• Promote mutually beneficial working relationships with key stakeholders
• Planning ACTUAL production orders on NAV and pushing out to the Touchscreen
• Support the training of production managers on how to run the planning programme in NAV if no planner present on site.
• Support the training of managers how to make manual orders just in the eventuality that there is one-off out of hours (e.g. As on night shift or after 4pm after planners have gone home)
• Finishing production orders on NAV ensuring consumption is correct.
• Create Weekly Capacity Plan by:
• Look at Last week’s orders and discuss with Commercial any promos/retirements/etc., (including promo sheet review)
• Plan extra demand and/or reduce demand accordingly
• Ensure Forecast in NAV for Capacity planning is correctly updated with forecast sales (note: this can be different to commercial sales forecast view)
• Create a production line plan by shift from the Capacity Plan. Discuss/negotiate this with the Shift managers, Agency Account Manager each week and get them to own/approve/sign-off the plan.
• Review the production managers labour Purchase Order and ensure it is consistent with the production line plan/capacity plan.
• Review with Production Managers and line leaders daily the prior day’s production performance vs Stds and the Plan. Get explanations for variations to plan and summarise into a daily report for the Ops Director. Based on explanations, refine planning assumptions and/or keep pressure on managers to follow the plan.
• Be prepared to modify the capacity plan in the week for known significant issues which make the capacity plan/production line plan materially incorrect.
• Modify NAV to get sequence plan for jobs implemented and codified into NAV.
• Planning department to be the Production Process Champions.
• Complete the RFC steps for new production creation/NPD (assigning lines and process rates).
• Assist with 6 monthly man minute reviews and update NAV process rates accordingly.
• Assist in training team leaders to understand the data and help optimise their production lines by applying lean techniques

Education/Experience Requirement

• College Degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
• High School diploma or GED Required
• Relevant experience gained within a food manufacturing environment preferred.
• Relevant experience of MRP system experience and understanding preferred.

• Understanding of ERP system and Microsoft Office products; strong computer skills.
