The Research and Development team are looking for a DevOps Engineer to manage development tools and environment to aid and enhance the development processMain Duties
  • Support in the management of methods of deployment (development, testing and production environments) and the processes and tools required to execute those deployments.
  • Support in the management of the software development tools used by the development team and ensure they are scalable and failure proof.
  • Create failure management processes and tools so outages can be handled without causing a loss of delivery.

  • Propose and champion changes to tools and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the development team.
  • Automate parts of the release process using scripts and other appropriate tools.
  • Support in the management of issue tracking, source control, continuous integration, release and agile development tools.
  • Document processes and user guides for integrated tools and scripts.
  • Devise and develop analytical methods and tools to measure the efficiency of products and processes.

  • Advise on new technologies and methodologies by becoming an expert in emerging technologies and tools.Consider how these may be incorporated into FOM systems and proposals to the R&D Groups’ Management.
  • Accurately estimate project and task duration and costing.
  • Plan and track project/task work fully using the tool prescribed by the R&D Groups’ Management.This includes completing timesheets for tasks being worked on and project/task reporting (including producing reports) as required by the R&D Groups’ Management.
  • Plan and implement projects consistent with the overall aims and objectives of the R&D Group.
  • Actively participate in knowledge distribution to colleagues.
  • Engage in team meetings, proactively contributing to the achievement of team objectives.
  • Liaise efficiently with other staff/departments/teams and outside organisations (manufacturers, suppliers, and consultancies). Establish and maintain effective and efficient relations, overcoming problems and defining requirements.Represent the Group in meetings and project meetings being professional at all times.
About YouQualifications
  • You will have a HND or Hons Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
Experience
  • You will have at least 4 years’ experience in a DevOps role as part of a Software Development Team developing desktop and web applications in a Windows environment.
  • You must have experience operating in virtual environments.
  • You need to be competent in writing technical reports, specifications and user documentation.
Knowledge & Skills
  • You must have a good knowledge of development, deployment, configuration and continuous integration technologies (preferably Visual Studio, TeamCity and Upsource).
  • Must have a good working knowledge of source control technologies (preferably Perforce and TFS).
  • Must have a good working knowledge of project management/task tracking tools (preferably TFS and JIRA)
  • Must have a good working knowledge of one or more scripting languages e.g. PowerSehll, Python

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise tasks, being capable of working on large projects and small tasks in parallel.
  • Working effectively/ efficiently in a team as well as individuallywith minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt effectively to changing targets and objectives and ensure tight deadlines are achieved.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • The ability to report and communicate in a professional manner with colleagues, team members, other departments, managers and outside organisations
