An exciting opportunity has arisen for an IT Network Technician to join our IT Networking Team based in Edinburgh. Reporting into the IT Infrastructure Manager and operating within an IT Shared Services model you will be responsible for providing network maintenance and support, identifying and resolving network problems and issues and using network management software and tools to collect performance statistics. This role would suit someone who has a good grounding within network support and maintenance with a strong knowledge of CISCO equipment, switching & routing and firewalls such as Checkpoint or Juniper and is enthusiastic about technology and is keen to learn and develop technically.

  • Ensure IT networks are managed to the satisfaction of the business:
  • Incidents and Service Requests closed within SLA.
    • Review breached calls
    • Problems investigated, recommendations made and implemented (if feasible)
    • Alerts responded to in a timely manner
    • Alerts configured to provide accurate timely alerts to enable proactive responses
    • Co-ordinate and implement OS and firmware upgrades
    • No unplanned outages attributable to System Administrators
    • System uptime and availability within SLA
    • Unnecessary alerts are cleansed to ensure that they are relevant and accurate
  • Ensure network is kept within supported levels. Fully document systems including DR procedures, recovery procedures, build procedures, call out logs, decision logs, and maintenance procedures and fix knowledge base.
  • Problems investigated, recommendations made and implemented (if feasible) Identify Weakness and risk issues across the estate.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in services.
  • Support managed Disaster Recovery tests.
  • Develop and maintain procedures to ensure that systems can be recovered in the event of a disaster.
  • Fully document disaster recovery procedures. Highlight single points of failure to manager.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
  • Proven previous experience working within a similar Network Support position
  • Strong working knowledge of Switching & Routing
  • Strong working knowledge of CISCO hardware and ideally CISCO certified
  • Strong working knowledge of Firewall Management ideally both Checkpoint and Juniper
  • Good knowledge of Proxy Servers (desirable)
  • Good understanding of networking principles (WAN/LAN/Security/WiFi).
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent team working skills and good technical leadership skills.
  • Able to deal effectively with the customer to deliver a professional service.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Able to plan and prioritise own work and deliverables.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills and a 'can do' attitude.
