Pertemps are currently recruiting for a Local Authority Finance Trainee to work within the Public Sector based in Hammersmith, London on a temporary contract to start as soon as possible until the end of March 2019

The purpose of the role is to provide comprehensive, efficient, confidential, flexible, and effective support to the Rent Accounts Team. Working with the Senior Rent Account Officers to ensure that daily rent accounting processes are carried out in a timely and proficient manner, as well as providing wider support to the Head of Finance when required

Local Authority Finance Trainee – Responsibilities

• Process tenants rent refunds within the agreed timescales of 12 days, ensuring supporting departments (Housing Benefit, Council Tax, Rental Income Team, and Corporate Anti-Fraud) are consulted prior to issuing refunds

• Liaise, as necessary, with MPs, Councillors, Chief Officers of Authorities, Directors, Senior Managers, Service Heads, Central Government Officers, Directors of external organisations and members of the public, as requested

• Proactively work with the Rental Income Team to increase Direct Debit take up of tenants

• Manage and maintain a log of all account adjustments made, including supporting evidence

• Proactively work with Rental Income Support Officers / Sheltered Housing Officers or Tenancy Management Officers when credits have been mis-posted to rent accounts, to move credits to the correct accounts

Local Authority Finance Trainee – Qualifications & Experience

• A Finance related degree (desirable)

• A general understanding of finance within Social Housing

• An awareness of the impact of Welfare Reform on Social Housing

• Experience of working in an environment requiring the delivery of outstanding customer service and of effectively dealing with customers face-to-face

• Evidence of working as an effective team player and building and maintaining effective relationships with colleagues

• A record of successfully engaging with others and building positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders

• Evidence of promoting equal opportunities

• Experience of working to tight deadlines and managing own time efficiently

• Evidence of frequently having to produce work to a high standard

• Experience of working in a public facing role within the workplace or voluntary sector

• Evidence of being able to produce complex numerical information, and present it in a logical manner to various audiences

• A successful record of accomplishment of contributing to continuous improvement to improve organisational performance, reduce costs and deliver increasing customer satisfaction

• Evidence of taking responsibility for their own personal development

Skills & Abilities

• Listen to and assimilate information provided by residents and colleagues quickly and unambiguously

• Work collaboratively with colleagues

• Plan and prioritise workload without close supervision

• Deal effectively with phone calls and correspondence

• Make accurate and timely reports on the outcomes of casework

• Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders

Local Authority Finance Trainee – Additional Information

• The role of Local Authority Finance Trainee is a temporary role to start in as soon as possible until the end of March 2019

• The hourly rate on the role is £10.20

• This is a full time role Monday – Friday, 36.00 hours per week
