Location: Dover

Salary: Circa £60,000 DoE

Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Head Of Mechanical Engineering for their client who are based in Dover.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to lead and develop the Mechanical Engineering team, with overall responsibility for mechanical design and development activities within the Engineering Department.

My client has international manufacturing facilities and a global sales presence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and supervision of all resources within Mechanical Engineering team i.e. Lead Engineers, Senior Engineers and Engineers.
Management and allocation of Mechanical Engineering resources to support business needs, for both New Product Development (NPD) projects and Product Support / Continuous Improvement (CI) activities.
Prepare, manage and track annual operating budgets for the mechanical development team.
Drive consistency in the technical approach adopted across all projects, to support NPD development and corporate business strategies.
Drive implementation of new technology and innovation in product design/architecture to provide product differentiation, to achieve business growth through product excellence across all markets.
Organise and chair Design/Peer reviews ensuring the design is fir for purpose against the stated requirements and incorporates best practice.
Where appropriate prepare and present designs to other members of the mechanical team and project stakeholders at design reviews or project meetings. Alternatively support Engineers in preparation and presentation of designs and review material for peer/stakeholder review.
Act as the go-to person for Project Managers and Senior Management/BE for project portfolio updates and overall discipline status.
Own the Departmental Mechanical Strategy and ensure a modular approach to mechanical development to ensure that architecture, design systems and methods are re-usable and transferable across products.
Ensure compliance with departmental processes relating to development of designs, as well as design and project management processes.
Adhere to agreed requirements set out by project management in terms of keeping to agreed timescales and milestones noted in project plans and Gantt charts.
Lead the strategy for mechanical technology platforms, partnerships and external relationships.
Keep abreast of new trends and best practices in technology landscape. Identify, compare, select and implement technology solutions to meet current and future needs.
Review performance of discipline team members and set objectives through the company performance and appraisal process.
Manage disciplinary procedure (where necessary) in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Encourage and facilitate the personal development of team members within the technical discipline, through identification of development opportunities during performance reviews, training courses, mentoring or workshops.

Skills and Qualifications:

The successful candidate shall be degree qualified, or HND/HNC, in Mechanical and/or Production Engineering.
At least 10 years of experience in product design and development.
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop an Engineering team.
Ability to understand and interpret requirements from customer specifications.
Be methodical in analysis and problem solving.
Ability to take responsibility for delivery of mechanical design on assigned projects.
Have experience of quickly and effectively producing mechanical designs to required specification, timescales and budgets.
Competent in the selection of materials and solutions appropriate to project objectives and supply chain strategy.
Highly proficient in the use of a 3D CAD system (preferable Solidworks) for 3D part/assembly design and 2D detail component/assembly drawings.
