Head of Investment Legal Transactional
Manager of the Investment Legal Transactional team, reporting to the Head of Legal, Investment. The role would consist of managing a team of 5 or more lawyers, trainees and paralegals, allocating derivatives and traded products negotiations and project work across the team while also spending time on trading documentation negotiations themselves. The team primarily provides support to Schroders' investment and operations teams globally, negotiates a variety of trading documentation (including ISDAs, GMRAs and OTC and ETD clearing agreements) and provides advice regarding the purchase of various credit-linked notes and other structured products. In the near-term, project work would include Brexit-related repapering and the preparation for the exchange of initial margin in respect of OTC derivatives. The role would include coordination and supervision of senior team members maintenance of trading documentation templates and collaboration with the Derivatives Regulatory team member and APAC derivatives lawyer where appropriate. The role would also include the need to identify, develop and implement technological solutions to provide greater efficiency (where possible). Required Skills • Senior qualified lawyer with a number of years' experience in managing a large or medium-sized derivatives and traded products documentation team in a sell-side or buy-side organisation. • Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with internal stakeholders (including Transitions, Derivative Operations and Investment Operations teams) and counterparty contacts to facilitate smooth negotiation/on-boarding processes. • Strong prioritisation skills and ability to allocate team resources effectively, clearly communicating with line-manager and stakeholders any anticipated resource constraints. • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Strong team player with positive and pro-active attitude. • Develops effective relationships with internal clients and gains their trust and respect. • Understanding of investment management products and issues. • Liaises clearly and openly with line manager and with all departments/areas throughout Schroders. • Up-to-date understanding of recent regulatory changes impacting derivatives and traded products. • Resilience, adaptability and flexibility. • Using outside counsel and other in-house legal resources efficiently. Obtaining focused advice where required. Desirable Skills • Ideally the candidate would already have a number of contacts across the derivatives industry. • Experience of negotiating investment management agreements not essential but useful. • Demonstrates a passion for excellence and exceeding client expectation.
