JobTitle: Assistant Engineer - Highways

The Role:Under supervision deliver technical outputs of projects

or service areas to meet the client's brief.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Undertake services within an engineering environment which may include (but not limited

to); scheme investigation, site inspections, data collection and analysis, feasibility studies,

preliminary and detailed design, preparation of tender documents and works/construction

inspection and supervision.

2. Prepare technical designs or drawings, documents and use specialist software in

accordance with approved design procedures and systems.

3. Assist with the management delivery of small projects or a small programme of work with

minimal supervision.

4. Demonstrate compliance with Health and Safety Responsibilities as well as other company


5. Ensure that delivery is achieved in accordance with the company's systems and procedures,

including those relating to SHEQ, Health and Safety, project and risk management.

6. Be a proactive and collaborative team member, work closely with colleagues and fit

seamlessly into a delivery team.

7. Be flexible and proactive and liaise with other teams from other engineering disciplines.

8. Take ownership of own career development using the company appraisal procedures and

undertake additional learning.

9. Actively promote Health and Safety in the workplace, setting a good example to other

employees and ensuring awareness of and compliance with general Health and Safety

responsibilities as set out in the Health and Safety Management System.

10. Perform other duties as may from time to time be reasonably required.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

* A degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.

* Working towards incorporated or Chartered Status of a relevant professional institution.

* Have knowledge of, and have gained experience in, design of highway
improvement and maintenance schemes to UK standards.

* Have a working knowledge and have gained experience of the main
management systems & processes used within a similar business.

* Have working knowledge and have gained experience of relevant
design software and standards.

* Experience of working on design and build contracts (desirable)
Competency in AutoCAD (desirable)

* Good technical skills.

* Fluent spoken and written English

* IT Literate.

* Able to work without supervision and to seek advice when necessary
