My clients in Cambridgeshire are looking for a Scientist / Bioengineer: Biosensors.

This role is commutable from Cambridge, Bedford, St. Neots, Huntingdon, Sandy, Yaxley.

JOB PURPOSE:
Develop novel biosensors based on organic and printed electronics.
Prepare electrical and opto-electronic transducers and assays with biosensing functionality and identify and develop testing methodologies to assess the sensitivity, dynamic range and specificity of the biosensors to solid, liquid and gaseous analytes.
Define and develop experimental measurement techniques and data analysis techniques in order to improve the sensitivity and limit of detection.

KEY RESULT AREAS:
- Establishing robust testing methodologies for novel biosensors which are based on electronic and opto-electronic devices.
- Reviewing and modifying methods to integrate biorecognition and bio-capture layers with organic electronic and opto-electronic transducers.
- Identify, modify and utilise model analytes in both aqueous and gaseous delivery matrices to provide clear and reproducible assessment of biosensors.
- Identify and develop creative solutions to technical problems encountered during the feasibility development of novel biosensors.
- Identify and develop opportunities for biosensing for future business development.
- Contribution to the widening fields for the comany's Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio.

MAIN ACTIVITIES:
- Development and implementation of novel testing methodologies and processes for the timely assessment of the sensitivity, specificity and limit of detection for electronic and opto-electronic biosensors for a wide range of analytes.
- Experimental fabrication of biosensors and the integration of biorecognition elements with the transducers.
- Identification, design and provision of support to the implementation of revised designs to the transducers' geometry and experimental set-up for quantitative assessments of biosensors.
- Identify and develop methods for sample preparation and the effective introduction of analytes to the biosensors, for reproducible evaluation of their response to specific and non-specific binding events. Review and recommend strategies for future practical integration of analyte delivery to an organic electronic biosensor array.
- Identifying risks, mitigation strategies and solving problems encountered during the course of the experimental study of novel biosensors.
- Provide guidance and insight on various aspects of biochemical assays to the technical team.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- PhD or equivalent in a bioscience related discipline with a research focus on a biologically relevant topic and excellent academic credentials is essential.
- Experience and expert knowledge of the fields of bio-sensing and bio-assays is essential.
- Working knowledge and experience in the development of testing methodologies for biosensors is essential.
- Evidence of creative, inventive problem solving, with an aptitude for experimental work and with experience of solving complex problems in the biosensing field is essential.
- Self-motivation and ability to operate independently in a laboratory environment is essential.
- An understanding of the time-critical demands of target-driven Industrial research and with drive and passion to work towards critical deadlines is essential.
- Excellent team working skills, with the ability to interface and effectively communicate across multiple scientific disciplines is essential.
- Self-motivated, creative and inventive with an aptitude for experimental work is essential.
- An appreciation of the importance of the confidentiality of highly sensitive information and a good understanding of the time-critical demands of target-driven industrial research is essential.

Advantageous:
- Commercial experience in research, development and commercialisation of biosensors is an advantage.
- A demonstrable interest in the application of novel materials and devices for biological research is an advantage.
- Experience of writing experimental and data acquisition control programmes is an advantage.
- Experience in effective communication across multiple scientific disciplines and audience background is an advantage.

Salary circa £33-36k per annum but flexible for the right candidate.
