The Scientist Role
We are seeking to appoint a Scientist to join the SAFENANO Section in our Analytical Division. The post holder will work on a variety of nanosafety-related consultancy and research projects undertaken by the Section, with a focus on the measurement and data analysis of particulate emissions from processes in the workplace and chemical safety consultation.

The principal technical and administrative duties would include:

* Conducting instrumental measurement surveys and assessing workplaces, as part of a team, to identify and evaluate potential exposures to hazards, using state-of-the-art real-time instruments (e.g. CPC, FMPS, SMPS, DustTrak etc) and sampling devices to gather data on particulate emissions from manufacturing processes and nanomaterial handling activities;
* Analysis and interpretation of measurement data and the contextual observations gathered during site-visits to workplaces;
* Conducting relevant laboratory experiments and analysis in the study of materials safety;
* Supporting CLP and REACH assessments for chemicals.
* Supporting the reporting and preparing MSDS of chemicals for clients.
* Writing client reports and contributing to articles for peer-reviewed publication;
* Contributing to the development of proposals in the pursuit of consultancy and research opportunities;
* Supporting the development and maintenance of the SAFENANO website.

Requirements for the Scientist Role

* HND or BSc in a physical or applied science subject.
* Work experience, within a laboratory environment would be advantageous.
* Experience with data analysis.
* Experience of project- or client-focussed working.
* IT skills: MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
* Accuracy and attention to detail.
* Proven analytical and problem solving capacity.
* Ability to keep a track of a range of activities and demands.
* Creative thinker to improve effectiveness and identify new approaches to solve problems.

Training will be provided and candidates should be prepared to travel overseas.
