Mildmay Oaks is a low secure and locked rehabilitation service for men with learning disability and autism spectrum disorder, and for women with learning disability.

Main Duties:
-To manage the keys on wards (staff and patient keys), by ensuring systems in place that maintain security, whilst promoting patients' privacy & dignity by ensuring they have access to keys for their bedrooms.

-To ensure provision of personal alarms on the wards for staff, ensuring the system is working and making arrangements for maintenance and repairs of the alarms/system as required

-To support wards with the role of radio responder by ensuring wards always have a radio responder on shift, staff know how and when to use the radios, radios are maintained and working, and supporting documentation and checks are completed

-Respond to radio calls from wards requesting backup in emergencies and incidents

-Ensure the CCTV system is working day-to-day and liaise with IT if any problems that need rectifying

-Keep abreast of legislation relating to the use of CCTV in hospital, and advise service manager if there are any changes which impact on the hospital's use

-Deliver mandatory training to staff in relational, physical and procedural security

-In conjunction with HR, organise and provide ID badges/fobs for staff

-Provide security briefings/inductions to new staff as they commence employment

-Ensure that new staff receive their ward security induction, by collating paperwork from ward managers which evidences this

-Support the security nurses on each ward to ensure that they are undertaking the role competently and completing necessary checks and documentation

-Undertake security checks on the wards, including addressing raising areas of maintenance that may present as a security/safety risk

-Ensure random room searches for secure wards are undertaken in conjunction with the security nurses/ward managers

-Work alongside the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that the security aspects of the low secure standards are fully adhered to, contributing to action plans to brings services up to standards (as needed)

-Audit services against the security aspects of low secure standards

-Understand and follows risk management plans undertaking all aspects of risk assessment/management competently and accurately

-Report any security concerns to the ward manager in order to maintain the safety of patients, staff and others.

-Attend and contribute to ward team meetings, Patient Safety meeting and Clinical Governance, as required.

-Contribute to critical incident reviews when incidents involve breaches of security

-Act as a role model to staff members allocated to the role of security nurse, and promote security to all staff
