The software supports the care of 15 million+ patients, handling 70 million transactions p.a. in the UK. They are a team based in central Bristol. Their agile culture is very much developer / engineering focussed and high standards are expected because they that's what they would want should we become patients.

Role Definition
The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision and technical management of customer projects, third line support as well as internal infrastructure as well as providing guidance for continuous improvement.

This includes service maintenance (including automated and human monitoring) of multiple high volume Web / database applications spread across 80 remote servers.

The candidate will, together with the operations team, maintain and improve an automated Octopus application deployment as well as Fluent Migrator database tools, which are used for automated nightly builds and production deployments. The candidate will be the point of escalation for technical incidents and also be involved in the scoping, completion and evaluation of project work.

They are looking for someone with a strong technical background (development / system administration and operations), excellent analytical skills and the ability to cope well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

- Elements of 3rd line and definitive support - senior point of escalation for all technical support issues
- Participation on a 24/7 support rota
- Take a lead on key technical decisions and drive continuous improvement
- Significant usage of SQL
- Perform complicated relational data fixes
- Maintenance of high performance databases
- Maintain / monitor high volume web servers (IIS)
- Develop and maintain internal tools for:
- Automated server monitoring
- Data cleansing and importing
- Prepare & deploy software builds (building, deploying to sites, post-deployment monitoring).
- Document and conduct monthly reviews of any server outages
- Bespoke work to process and import unstructured data
- Evaluate, purchase, set-up, and maintain external and internal infrastructure
- Supervise / scope / execute technical project work for customers
- Coach members of the operations team
- Manage team prioritisation and ensure issues are handled correctly & efficiently
- Liaise with developer team
- Maintain adherence to processes and quality standards
- Further develop existing processes

Knowledge
A strong technical background and experience with most of:
- SQL (MS SQL Server)
- Powershell / automation
- IIS / ASP.NET
- Debugging (web) applications
- SSRS
- C#
- Virtualisation (VMWare)
