Can you craft a compelling news story? Do you enjoy working with a variety of teams and stakeholders? Are you confident leading media strategy around key areas of health policy?

We’re looking for a Senior Media and PR Officer to join the Services, Policy and Impact PR team at Macmillan. It’s a fast-paced and challenging role, with huge scope for achieving meaningful coverage and effecting real change for people living with cancer.

Whether you’re responding to a reactive enquiry or planning the PR strategy for one of our key themes, you’ll need strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage senior stakeholders and their priorities. You will be an expert writer, capable of crafting stories for a variety of audiences, and you will have a strong news sense. Good journalist contacts across national media are essential.

As well as planning proactively for stories and campaigns, the post holder will play an active role in responding to reactive enquiries. Responding to requests in a timely manner is essential, so you will need strong time management skills as well as a flexible way of working. This role also takes part in the team’s out of hours rota.

The Senior Media and PR Officer plays a leadership role within the wider PR and media team, working with peers to drive forward the team’s strategy and support its more junior members. This role involves line managing Media and PR Officers, and you will be responsible for their development as well as your own.

In return for your hard work, we offer excellent benefits and training opportunities. We’re a high performing, dynamic team with lots of exciting and interesting projects on the go at any one time. Everything you do will support our aim to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can.
