My client and small and specialised legal organisation are looking for a billings administrator to join their team of 15 support staff, operating out of their office located in Central Bristol.

The job exists to provide effective and efficient billing of cases within criminal and family fee schemes, to provide effective and efficient collection of professional fees, and so assist the smooth running of the administration within the company.

The post is one of three positions that are concerned with the administration and management of legal fees.The job holder will report directly to the Company Director.

1. Monitor all outstanding fees and manage fee collection from the Legal Aid Agency, Crown Prosecution Service, other relevant agencies and solicitor clients via telephone calls, email and written correspondence in order to maximise fee collection and minimise aged debt
2. Reading and interpreting information on criminal and family publicly funded claims completed by fee earners, ensuring that accurate information is transferred onto the Meridian Law Connected system, Client and Cost Management System (CCMS), Crown Court Defence (CCD) and P2P programmes
3. Provide management information to the members of chambers on outstanding criminal and family fees, and resolve routine queries
4. Respond appropriately and in a timely way to queries from the relevant payment authorities and solicitors to whom a bill/fee note has been submitted to ensure that the bill/fee note is properly dealt with. This may be in person, by telephone, email or written correspondence
5. Assist, when necessary, with the processing of payments received
6. Refer unclear or complex information on graduated fee forms to the appropriate clerk, fee earner or Director in a timely way, so that difficulties are dealt with quickly and information can be entered onto the Meridian Law Connected system efficiently and accurately
7. Monitor the time between the completion of a case and the relevant fee earner submitting the claim form.
8. Take an active part in a performance review at least once a year to ensure continuing improvements in performance and processes associated with key accountabilities of the job
9. To refer difficulties or challenges to carrying out any of the key accountabilities of the job to the Director in a timely way to ensure that they are carried out and the administration processes in chambers are not compromised.

The ideal candidate would posses the following: 

1. Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent
2. Able to work effectively within a team and deal directly (face-to-face and by telephone/ email) with professionals
3. General IT Literacy 
4. Ability to enter data accurately and a commitment to detail.
5. Exposure to either billings, credit control or general finance administration
6. Previous experience within a legal firm would be advantageous.
