Role overview

The main focus of the Audit & Governance Officer will be, under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager, to work collaboratively with the management and staff of a busy operational payroll and pensions-focussed department, undertaking hands-on audit activities. When not working on these tasks, this individual will manage the day-to-day progression of a variety of both cyclic and ad-hoc assurance and governance activities.

NHS SBS Employment Services operates across two sites - Southampton and Sheffield. As part of preparing for and facilitating audit activity, there will be a requirement for some occasional attendance at the Sheffield office, although the role is based in Southampton.

Key responsibilities

- Liaison and support for Internal and External audit activity
- Day-to-day administration of the NHS SBS Risk Management process within ES
- Line of business administration for Quality Assurance and Information Governance processes in relation to Quality and Information Security best practice
- Business as usual activities covered by the ES Quality & Assurance Team, as necessary
- Act as Audit Guide on behalf of the ES Quality Assurance Manager during ISO9001 and ISO27001 audits
- Promote best practice for Quality, Information Governance and Information Security across the line of business as a first point of contact for any related queries
- Undertake monthly reviews of on-going ES risks with line of business risk owners and leads and escalate risks, as required to Quality Assurance Manager

Note: The post may require some national travel and occasional over-night stays.

Essential skills

- Proven experience as an Audit Guide and/or involvement in supporting audit activity
- A robust, self-starter with demonstrable tact and tenacity
- Excellent team working skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
- The ability to work under own initiative with direction from management
- Ability to assimilate large quantities of written and verbal communication quickly and produce accurate, timely output
- Able to plan and organise own work of themselves and others to ensure the achievement of targets and outcomes
- Proven experience of providing written and verbal formal internal communications to staff at all levels

Desirable skills

- Understanding of Payroll, Pension and Recruitment Functions
- Knowledge of the NHS
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- ISO 9001 and/or ISO27001 qualification/certification
- Experience as an Internal Auditor or as part of an internal audit team About us
