Depute Head Teacher, East Calder Primary School, 35 hours per week, closing date 7th May 2017

East Calder Primary School is a non-denominational school associated with The West Calder High School cluster.

The school offers:
  • A 60/60 nursery including provision for all day children.
  • 12 classes from primary 1 through to primary 7

This session, the total school roll (P1-P7) comprises 291 pupils with 88 pupils in nursery. There are 16 members of teaching staff and a team of 5 pupil support workers who also work directly with the children. The school management team consists of the head teacher; depute head teacher and principal teacher. The school shares a business support manager with the other schools in the cluster.

The school works very closely with the West Calder High School cluster schools There are well developed and mutually successful and supportive partnership links with local community groups and businesses, The school has earned a very good reputation within the community and is very well supported by the parent council and the wider parent forum.

The school has achieved level 2 of the Right Respecting Schools Award and has achieved an Eco Flag award.

This year, the priorities for improvement are:
  • To work collaboratively in school and at cluster level to raise attainment, particularly in maths, through the development of a growth mind set.
  • To further develop an assessment framework and to further develop pupil profiling across the school.

Other areas of development within the school for session 2016-17 are to revise and update the Health and Wellbeing programme and to further develop approaches to Reading to ensure consistency across all stages of the school.
