OVERVIEW: LEARNER SUPPORT MENTOR

Reporting to the Senior Business Manager, this centre-based role will require the successful candidate to develop and maintain effective and supportive educational support and guidance relationships with learners within an allocated caseload. Based in Lincoln, this role will initially be 16 hours over 2 days per week on a job-share basis. There will also be the opportunity for increased hours from June 2017 for a period of 4 months due to planned staff leave.



The ideal candidate will be an effective team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to resolve conflict positively, whilst making objective judgements. Ability in the development and implementation of individual support plans as well as confident IT skills are also essential traits that the ideal candidate will possess.



As a Learner Support Mentor, you will liaise regularly with tutors and other relevant staff to ensure the level of mentoring and mentor targets are supporting the learner progress and achievement are in keeping with the programme. You will also assist learners who are perceived to be underperforming in any area of their programme through one-to-one, group and independent study sessions.



You will also need to plan, support and deliver strategies and activities to develop personal, social and employability skills to maximise learners' success on programme, in work placement and to secure progression routes, as well as creating and maintaining individual mentoring and support records with SMART targets for each learner.



ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE: LEARNER SUPPORT MENTOR

* Delivering support to young people and adults with a range of barriers to their success
* The ability to build supportive, effective, and professional relationships with learners, partner agencies, stakeholders, and employers
* Managing challenging behaviour
* Mentoring/coaching young people and/or adults to achieve education and training success
* Working as part of a team and with minimum supervision
* Ability to motivate and engage young people to participate
* Setting SMART targets, recording and monitoring individual support plans
* Excellent communication and listening skills
* Planning and delivering support sessions and activities to support personal, social and employability skills development
* Experience of delivering high levels of customer service



QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES: LEARNER SUPPORT MENTOR

Essential:

* Advice and Guidance Level 4 and/or a relevant learning support qualification
* Significant experience of working in a learning support role in the Work Based Learning and Training sector



SALARY/BENEFITS: LEARNER SUPPORT MENTOR

This position attracts a starting salary of between £22,000 - £24,000 dependent on experience and qualifications
