Highland Council is at the forefront of the delivery of children's services in Scotland and the UK. It offers tremendous opportunities for social workers and managers.

We are committed to giving every child and young person in Highland the best possible start in life; to enjoy being young; and to be supported to develop as confident, capable and resilient, to fully maximise their potential. We want our children to be safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected & responsible and included.

We provide an integrated service for children and families, bringing together colleagues across health, education and social care in a single Department, and into integrated Family Teams. We have an embedded Practice Model across all professional disciplines, achieving full implementation of 'Getting it right for every child'.

In our most recent children's services inspection, we achieved some of the highest grades in Scotland, with two 'good' and seven 'very good'. We were commended for highly effective work across services, promoting greater inclusion of children and young people, and achieving positive outcomes.

Other evaluations confirm that the Highland Practice Model is providing effective help to families at an early stage, and that families feel more integrated into the process of support. As part of this, bureaucracy has been reduced, we have a single child's plan, the new health visitor pathway has been fully implemented, and social worker caseloads have fallen by up to 50%.

Highland also offers one of the best environments for work, rest and play in the UK. From the mountains and glens to our wonderful coastline, we offer the most beautiful scenery and an unbeatable lifestyle for you and your family.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward looking authority, that believes passionately in services for children, and will support you to deliver the best practice to help make a difference for families.

Reporting to a District Manager, you will be part of a multi-agency team, working collaboratively to provide both universal and targeted provision to children, including early intervention and safeguarding services. You will be an excellent team builder, keen to maximise the benefits of integrated working, with high standards and high expectations.
